Here's the scenario:
1st off I'll give you the cpu specs so you "FS9 experts" can help!
2.4ghz Core 2 Duo, 2gb ram, 2X512 nVidia 7950gtx SLI ...
When I turn the anti-aliasing off on my graphics card panel, the planes look like crap. But, when I turn it up, pop-ups like squawkbox and even some of the extra panel things like the FMC, Radio etc. cause the main view to freeze, or for lack of better terms, it looks like it is paused.
Does anyone have any suggestions to optimize the antialiasing, antistrophing on the cards.

You should not be experiencing freezing with FS9 in a rig of your caliber. I have more RAM, a similar CPU, but only 1 GPU (Sapphire X1950 Pro 512MB). I have ATI control all of the settings and most are at high. I also have Trilinear filtering on in FS9. I don't have any visual/performance issues, except some stuttering in thunderstorms with puffy clouds, etc. Questions for you:
-Do you have AA on in FS9? I only recommend using your graphics driver AA function and leave it off in FS9.
-Have you tried AA at 4x? I'm not sure what the AF settings are for nvidia cards. But definitely AA at 4x should work fine.
-Have you added the following lines to your FS9.cfg file?
UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=XY (XY= whatever locked FPS you want; I recommend 35 for your card setup)
TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=100
TextureMaxLoad=10
....Read this thread for more FS9 tweaking tips and background info on the above lines: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=25421
-Have you done a clean install of your graphics drivers?
-How many background programs & services are you running?
I'd be glad to help you troubleshoot. Do a google search, too, and you should find a ton of stuff.

Quoting 727stretch (Reply 1): Do you have AA on in FS9? I only recommend using your graphics driver AA function and leave it off in FS9.
I don't have as powerful a rig as you guys but it is a decent Hp laptop:
P4 3.0 Ghz Ht, 1Gb of Ram and an ATI 128 dedicated graphics card
I have maxed out most of the sliders on FS9 and set the target frame rate at 30. And I have bilinear anti aliasing on in FS9. however most of the time I get between 20 fps. I noticed that if I cut back on the traffic and clouds I get close to 30 fps. So here is (are) the question(s)
1. Do you recommend not using the FS9 anti aliasing??? if not, how do I ensure my graphics card is doing the best job it can in anti-aliasing???
2. What are some tweaks I can do withing FS9 and the cfg file that can get me more frame rates whilst still keeping great looking planes.. Similarly how can I tweak the ATI settings to work best for FS9???
cheers
particles and waves are the same thing, but who knows what that thing is...

Ok experts (because I'm DEFINITELY not one!), here's what my FS9.cfg currently reads. I'm running a P4 3.0gHz HT with 2GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM and a nVidia 6800GS 256MB GDDR3 PCIExpress card.
Please let me know what tweaks - if any - might be helpful!
