Spotting At Frankfurt Main

I'm currently planning a trip to Frankfurt in early May flying in and out of Hahn (yes I know). I quite fancy a trip to Frankfurt-Main airport for some spotting. I was disappointed to note that the viewing gallery seems to have closed is this still the case? If it is can anyone suggest a spot I can get to on foot no more that about 20 mins from the terminal?

Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but there's a pretty good view from the food court area on the second level of Terminal 2. You'll get some pretty good views of heavies powering up at the beginning of 25R.

I do not know if both visitor areas still are closed. Depending on the approach direction, spotters meet usually at the eastern fence between the runways, or at the famous visiting plattform at the 18. The latter is about 40 mins walk from the teminals.
