I'm quite sure that MS is working on a newer version for FS, it's like any software and constantly needs to be updated and improved (adding new toys and gadgets) to keep sales going. A new version of FS has come out every 2 years for the last 10 years: MSFS98, MSFS2000, MSFS2002, MSFS2004 and MSFS X (2006), so expect MSFS11 to come out in 2008 (usually the later half of the year towards Christmas).

Wasn't FSX designed to be the current FS for quite a long time (relatively speaking of course), the technology to run FSX at its full potential doesn't exist yet. I think we're looking at about 4 years.

Don't forget, there isn't really many add-ons for FSX yet and its been more than 6 months since it was released.

I believe that there will be a newer version out in 2008, just a more updated and better running version then FSX. I doubt it will be a leap as it was between FS9 and FSX, it'll be more like something between FS7 and FS8 or FS8 and FS9.

they need a MSFS old school, with all the planes out of service but still popular, like the 757 and 737-500 or something.
or maybe they could get some real liveries and airlines out there, x-plane has it why not make at least one default jet a real airline.

Never used x-plane, never seen it any stores, but I would assume it's because of trademark/copyright issues.

I agree.

In the next FS all i want is the world. Build it as realistic as possible and spend time on the envoirenment and make it the best FS there is. Then release it to there big Ac developers (like Level D, PMDG and posky/IFDG) and let them build a few aircraft for it then release it.

Thats what i think would make the best Flight simulator.

Haha yeh! The problem with FSX is in my opinion the graphics are too "arcady" so they arent any more realistic they are just made to appeal to the masses rather than more detailed and a more specific market. Which i guess is what microsoft want if they are in it to make money.

I think in the next couple of years, they'll be making expansion packs (kind of like 'The Sims 2'). IMO this is much better than making a brand new sim every 2 years. This allows us the comsumers to chose what we want.

There's already an expansion pack for FSX. FSX: Adrenaline, sounds pretty good. Sorry I can't find a link that works.

Copyright violations. Ok, so there was the BA Concorde in FS2004, and Kenmore's planes in FSX. They got permission, but it's really hard and not worth it to do so for all of them.

As far as I'm concerned, Microsoft's only mission for FS should be to provide add-on developers with a killer base platform to work with. Nothing in the default package is ever anywhere near as good as its eventual add-on replacement, so I don't think Microsoft should be worrying about airplanes, airports and sceneries nearly as much as a solid framework that can be built upon. If the base platform for FSX was half as developer friendly as FS9's, we'd be seeing some really exciting stuff from top developers right now. Unfortunately, Microsoft decided the X-Boxers were more important than the Flight Simmers when they put FSX together.

Actually, that would have been in FS2000 (which I never owned), but it was taken out of FS2002 because of the AF Concorde crash.

FSX was a very big step forward from FS9, just FS2000 was from FS98. I think it'll take time before we see many add-on's for FSX because many of us are frustrated that we can't get FSX to run on our computer system, so we're still using FS9. But I'm still very sure we'll see a modified/updated FS in 2008.

Not necessarily. FS98 was released in mid-1997, FS2000 was released in late 1999, FS2002 was released in late 2001, and FS2004 (FS9) was released in mid-2003. Generally, FS versions are released before the year they're named for.

Following this logic, FSX is actually FS2007, having been released in late 2006. This makes it a 4 year gap between FS9 and FSX. For FSX to be considered FS2006, it would've had to have been released in mid- to late 2005, as many expected. Again, following this logic, if FSXI was to be FS2008, it would be released by the end of this year.

I think FSXI will most likely be released in mid- to late 2009, and unofficially become FS2010.

757 and 737-500? They're still in service with dozens of commercial airlines around the world, and airlines keep on finding new, better uses for the 757 in particular. Just because they're out of production doesn't mean that they're no longer in service.

"Old school" would be the direction that FS2004 took, including aircraft like the Curtiss Jenny, Douglas DC-3, or Wright Flyer. Sadly, many of these are no longer included in FSX.

3 years actually. FS2004 - FS2007 (release dates 2003 - 2006)

Ah, but who said that FS11 would be FS2008? Most of us are saying that there could be a new FS version released in 2008, which would make FS11 a FS2009, which brings it back to it's 2 year cycle.

for once they could release a flight simulator based on modern architecture, for once not using essentially the same engine as with fsfw95!

no wonder fs doesn't run 'well' on even the best machines - the way m$ have kept the vastly outdated engine powering the thing patched up unsurprisingly murders any performance.

time, maybe, that m$ concentrated on getting it 'as real as it gets' through actually making it anywhere near 'as smooth as it is'!

Maybe not but if you notice the default airliners they all resemble real world airlines and have missions based in those areas - for instance the Jet Airways 737-800 in the Indian Ocean mission, I think they have a Gulf Air A320 lookalike too, in FS2004 they had an Asiana brown 777, KLM lookalike 737 etc.

I expect the DXT10 update and the expansion pack this holiday season, another expansion pack next holiday season and a new version end of 2009 - a 2008 release would require to have it already basically running now, and reading the ACES blogs that isn't the case yet.
