How about everyone post their results with SP1?? How much improvent did you experience?? Personally, I haven't had much time yet to test various scenarios, but I have noticed a definite improvement in framerates - somewhere around the 20% mark. I will tweak a few more settings when I have some time, and post another update. Unfortunately, I do not have a mulit-core processor, people with dual core or quad core processors are supposed to see the greatest performance gains (possibly up to 40%). So far though, I think SP1 looks like a winner.....

cheers

I am in the process of downloading it right now! I will definately tell you all how it works out for me. I hope it deals with the frame rate problems! I have one of the newer computers out there and it even has trouble running the darn thing! I have had to take a lot of my graphics down just to make it enjoyable to fly.

By the sound of that we need a SP for SP1 !

My friend records alot of footage on FSX and he has also said it majorly knocks the frames.

They're raving about it on Avsim. However, these are guys that have PC's with serious grunt. I've bought FSX, but I'm keeping X-Plane and FS2004 as my primary sims for now, until I have some better hardware.

FSX is playable (just!) for me, but I'm not keen on the default larger aircraft, and I'm very concerned how the complex addons are going to manage with their processing overheads...so I bide my time.

What kind of systems are running FSX, with reasonable frame rates and eye candy? I have a Dull xps2 laptop, 2.0gig PM, 2 gig ram, Geforce go7800gtx graphics. Will it be mostly crap or should I go for the previous model of FS...? Thanks

What the...?

I certainly don't consider my hardware as high end, and I've experienced a major improvement with SP1. MY machine spec's are: Athalon 64 3800 (2.4 gHz), 3 gb dual channel DDR, Sapphire Radeon X1950 XTX, 150 gb HDD, etc. As you can see, my rig isn't a low end machine, but it certainly isn't a hot new dual core or quad core machine either. Yes, people with multi-core processors will experience greater gains, but I'm more than happy with the performance increase I've seen so far. People with computers similar to mine have also experienced some real framerate improvments (as I've read on other forums).

I had setup a standard framerate test, long before SP1 was available, so that I could try different tweaks, and see how they affected the overall performance of FSX. I also started doing this, with SP1 in mind, so that I could see how significant the improved performance was. My test was sitting on RWY 34R at SeaTac, midday, with fair weather, in the A321. My display settings were set reasonably high, other than Autogen and traffic (eg. Scenery Complexity - very dense, Water - Low 2x, Complex clouds, Advanced Animations On, etc. etc.) - but I did have all traffic (AI aircraft, cars, boats, airport vehicles) turned completely off. With these settings, prior to SP1, I was hovering between 11 and 13 FPS. After SP1 was released, I left all my settings the same, but I ADDED 20% vehicle traffic, 40% AI aircraft, 25% Ships/ferries/leisure boats, and minimal airport vehicles. To my surprise, I was holding fairly steady at 18 FPS - AFTER SP1 was installed. Occasionally, it would spike up to 23 or so. Most definitely a significant improvement, on my "average" system.

My suggestion to everyone who is having problems - follow the installation instructions and recommendations very closely. You need a "clean" install of FSX - remove ALL 3rd party add-ons before installing SP1. Also, make sure that all your hardware drivers are up to date and stable.

cheers

If you uninstall FSX, it should also uninstall any patched files. Then, simply re-install FSX, then SP1. I hope this works out for you....

cheers

So far I'm getting the advertised improvement...right around a 20% increase. This is on a single Athlon 64 processor that is 3 years old in a laptop with 768MB RAM. Not the ideal setup by any means, but it runs. If I push the graphics up to Medium-High, my fps goes down to 8-9. Bringing the Autogen down helps a lot, and if I turn it completely off, I can get a solid 20 easily. So far, the most fun for me has been modding the Extra 300 cfg file to give it more power an agility...it'll actually do a loop without bleeding the airspeed down to 60 kts now! hehe

I started this thread, FSX And Antialiasing: Just My PC Or Program Flaw? (by N231YE Mar 7 2007 in Aviation Hobby) , about a month ago. With the FSX SP1, this doesn't happen anymore, so FSX must have hated my PC prior to the Service Pack.

Anyways, I noticed a 2FPS increase, but FSX still owns my PC  frown .

I got a big increase in frame rates (much more than 20%). Frame rates now equivalent to FS9 on my system, with default sliders. Previously I could only run FSX with the sliders at minimum, even then frames were poor. Strangely I now get a frame rate hit from water effects. I used to be able to set them to maximum, now default (mid level on my system) is max usable.

Still get wierd primary colour graphics when first loading 3D images and sometimes changing views.

I now have some scenery stepping in turns with autogen on. Going to try a full re-install and patch to see if it improves things.

SP1 is a big improvement for me. Unfortunately FSX performance still appears to vary greatly from system to system, so it seems there are still some bugs to be ironed out. Not planning to uninstall FS9 just yet.  Smile

I did everything all over again and still have the same problem. I guess I will have to stay in the cockpit the whole time!  Sad
