I am actually posting this question on behalf of my mate Steve, who isn't an airliners.net member.
Here is his message / question:
My computer keeps crashing everytime i load fs9 up. I have tried various things like reformatting and still no luck. I've also done a web search for other people that have had problems and no one has come up with a straight answer if there is one. I just wanna know if other people on here have had the same problem and had any cure for this. All my pc does is freeze, I get no error message or anything like that.. please help!

I had a similar problem months ago. Try a step by step reinstall so delete the game (right click delete) then install the game again, restart PC and start up fs. If it runs then put on one addon pack e.g. PMDG 747 or whatever. Restart pc and check FS runs. Just do that till everything is working, it will either suddenly stop working and you'll know which addon it does like so you can delete it or it will just run fine. Worked for me.
You cant have your cake and eat it... What the hells the point in having it then!!!

For the love of God don't delete FS off your hard drive like this. You must uninstall it from the add/remove programs section, or use the uninstall feature provided by the game itself. Merely deleteing root directories will mess your registry up. I would recomend doing the following:
1. UNINSTALL fs9
2. Once the uninstall is complete THEN delete the FS9 root directory.
4. Run a registry repair tool.
6. Install FS9 again
7. Attempt to run FS9
I had a problem like this once and it was caused by a corrupted registry. Everytime I started FS9.exe it crashed to desktop. If this doesn't work there may be a few other different things to try.

Absolutely. You can get away with that for some programmes but not for one as complex as FS... especially one that's produced by Microsoft.
