CLEwatcher - someone likes his Northwest as much as I like my BA!

Here's mine. Cabinet's starting to get a bit crowded...

I've also got a 1:400 Swiss MD-11 and 1:500 Qatar Airways A332, because I've flown on both.

The list - this was a Javascript experiment I knocked up a while back.

Which company makes the 1:200 bmi A320? I haven't seen this anywhere before.... Nice collection.

They're all 1:200. About 3/4 of them are Star Jets, a couple of Hogan Wings, one lonely Gemini Jets, and the rest Herpa.

Thanks The bmi A320 is made by Star Jets. As far as I know, they went bust a few years back, so finding some of their models can involve a fair number of Google searches and trawling through smaller retailers. You're in luck though - airlinemuseum.com has the bmi A320 in stock.  Smile

Quality's substantially better than the Herpas - it's a shame they went under. (Although, I bought every 1:200 they made, so it saved me a fortune...)

Just got my first 1:200 Gemini Jets model last week - the BA A320. Now that's a nice model. Die-cast metal with antennas, rubber tyres, even clear plastic beacons that catch the light, and the printing is incredibly detailed. Well worth getting to the nearest model shop and asking to see one - but have your money with you, because you won't want to leave such a gorgeous plane in the shop. Hey  Smile I had a quick look at your profile - do you have a pic with all 250 in?  Smile

You found the "Add smilies" link - just to the left of that is an "Add Images" link. Click that and a pop-up appears. You then click "THUMB" or "FULL SIZE" beside the image you want.

It should be obvious, but I missed it too. Just spent 10mins going through the help and searching Site Related, trying to remember how I managed to do it! Big grin It should really be in the Posting Help.

WAOW. Dang. That's a nice collection. I really love the way it looks when you have so many from each airline and group them together.

Do people here collect according to themes, generally? Particular airline, type, whatever? Me, I seem to have several general themes in my mind, and a new model these days usually fits into one:

  • "BA World tails" (especially on a 757), though any BA is good.
  • "Concorde". I love my Hogan Concorde so much that I'll probably get BA Landor and British, as well as the new and old Air France - and they'd better do G-BOAD in BA/SQ, or else! - so there's another theme waiting to run.
  • Despite my penchant for 757s and Concordes, I want more types. A Phoenix 1:200 Tu134 may be my next purchase.
  • I'm also interested in having a good geographical spread; I've realised in the last couple of weeks that I've not got anything from Africa (no, BA Botswana tail doesn't count) or Central/South America, but even an airline from a new country is good.

But I'd sell my grandmother for a decent 1:200 Swiss MD-11. She's a cantankerous old bat, I'd sell her anyway, but don't tell the guy with the MD-11 that  Wink

I wonder if you and some of you other guys would consider taking some string (floss-type, but a bit stronger) - maybe two pieces for each a/c, cross them diagonally under the a/c, then take the 4 ends up over the a/c and tie them in a way so that they could be hung from a ceiling (I would say with sticky tack, but definitely something stronger). I'm sure it could be done, and in an aesthetically pleasing way, too. Just my  twocents

This is such a great post & I'm so glad I came on this forum page looking as I've been wanting to follow some of my a.netters to see what you guys/gals do setting up your model displays, which type of models you like to buy, etc..

I have just started my collection after wanting to do so for many years. I have:
1:400 scale Gemini
Delta 762 Spirit of Delta
Delta 763 late 90s scheme
Delta 777 Current
Delta 752 Current
Delta MD11 late 90s scheme

AeroMexico 777 chrome
AeroMexico 788 new color scheme

1:400 scale Dragon Wings
Continental 764

I have many more to go as well as wanting to get all the models for each airline a/c I've been on.

Does anyone have a favorite online estore where they make the majority of their purchases?

Particular preferences for certain airlines when picking between Gemini, Herpa, Dragon and etc.. ?

Thoughts about setting up your own hybrid model airport?

What are some good sites to purchase airport equipment like jetways, stairs catering trucks and etc..? They are not the easiest things to find as most are sold out?

I meant wether they "hang" like the do on real planes when in the air, not if they're retractable  Wink Like the A330s rear wheelpair is lower than the front pair when in the air.

Hey Guys, I have a total to 211 models (all 1:400) scale, and just arrived ( still in the box, GeminiJets 1:400 airport terminal and also the mat that is associated with it, and another 7 more aircraft models on the way as we speak  Smile ) My pride and joy is my A380 collection, I have all airlines that have ordered it except China Southern...still hunting for that one ! )

By the way, is the best place to get Gemini Jets still the main branch down at Windy Road in Vegas by the airport ?

Best places to buy for me are: UML Hobby in Hong Kong (Official Distributor for DragonWings), www.aviationmegastore.com (you get tax free if outside the EU), and www.aviationcentreberlin.de (also tax free outside the EU) other sources might include inflight sales from the respective airlines  Smile

Thank you very much. There are more, and even more yet to build. The white and red L-1011 is a TWA bird. That shot shows 24 feet of airplane models, 95 % hand built and hand painted, no mirrors yet. Glad you like them. My 8 nephews love coming up to this room and just googling everything. It is our hangout, I am trying to build the upper deck now, will be a airport ramp, 24 feet long by 4 feet wide. Once again, thanks.

Yeah i wondered about that. I was up there just recently and bought models worth about €110. Next time, shall i go to the tax-refund counter at AMS to get the tax refunded? I thought about it but then decided not to, also because i have no idea where that counter is, and wether there even is one. Any AMS local might be able to help me out here.

Ok guys. I'm really into model airplanes. Mostly civil, but some WWII American/German planes. Can you give me a list or say 3 or 4 good websites where I can start ordering from?

Specs:

Airliners: North America, Carribean, Europe for now. And also the WWII airplanes.

Thanks guys!

Wow, there are some really awesome collections out there! I have a 75 plane collection myself, been collecting seriously for 4 years now. The planes are all 1/400 scale, I also have SIA's Heritage Series 1-3 and Series 5. Unfortunately I don't have any pics of my collection now because I store them in their boxes, simply ran out of room trying to display everything! Anyway, I won't list my entire collection, but here's some of the special stuff I have:

SIA A380 from the inaugural flight
MAS B744 Hibiscus and B777 Heliconia
Dragonair 20th Anniversary.
All 3 QR Asian Games special liveries
OS A340 Wiener Philarmoniker
CI B738 "Aspic Lavender" and A333s "Fruits" and "Butterfly Orchid"
Finnair "Moomins"
Wunala Dreaming
Several *A liveried aircraft

I will post some images of my collection soon if I find the time.

I have an extensive collection (various scales) and brands, mainly Gemini Jets and Dragon Wings. Two of my prized models though are my Bader Models 1/200 scale CityBird MD-11 (Green) and Trans Caribbean DC-8 (old livery). My collection mainly consists of Douglas and McDonnell Douglas aircraft and special color schemes. I also have each Air Force operator or base of the C-17A this includes the recently released Royal Canadian Air Force CC-177.

I love collecting models as much as I love taking photos of aircraft, it's a sickness I tell ya!

That shot shows 24 feet of airplane models, 95 % hand built and hand painted, no mirrors yet.

Hand built! That is even more impressive!

Quoting CALTECH (Reply 47):
My 8 nephews love coming up to this room and just googling everything.

I'm sure they do. I could easily spend many days looking at those models myself  Smile !

My collection is'nt big, but I'm working on it. I prefer the Herpa 1:500 scale, but I also have other scales and manufacturas, such as Schaback:

With few exceptions I only collect planes and airlines I have travelled with myself:

My newest planes from my last trips...

A wondeful version of a SAS DC-10 made by ERTL. retracting landing gear...

Wonderful Pan Am ! The big 727 is a Hasegawa modelkit that I have glued and painted togehter myself. Fairly good result...

These are some really old models, from my childhood, when I was playing with them and keeping them in shape was'nt the top priority. You can see that some of the paint chipped off.... But check out the great British Airways 1011 and the funny looking Matchbox version of Airbus 300 Air France. Funny wheels on that one...

I am amazed by the details of the 1:1000 scale models. Compare this with the average quality of Schabak models at scale 1:600. I started my diecats model collection with Schabak about 10 years ago but pretty soon switched over to Herpa Wings.

That was my initial idea but it didn't take too long before I started to buy other models too... couldn't resist the temptation  Wink

I have just unpacked and put on display all my models again (as I just inaugurated a room in my house which will be dedicated to aviation) and took pictures of them all, so I will be able to post some pics here shortly. I have Herpa Wings and StarJets on scale 1:500 and Dragon Wings, Gemini Jets, Herpa Wings and one or two other brands on scale 1:400.

I just started collecting 1:1000 scale models a couple of months ago and this new release by Hogan is an extreme upgrade compared to the current Herpa ones. The gear especially looks absolutely outstanding! Is the gear fix or is it removable?

I'll try to make pictures of my whole collection which is made up of a mix of 1:400, 1:200 and 1:500 aircraft. I collect mainly models of airlines from Switzerland.

I hope Herpa will follow Hogan's example; Herpa's models aren't bad at all, but they can really do something about those wheels (stumps)! If Hogan can do it, so can Herpa.

The Super-freighters, Airbus A380F and Boeing 747-8F, both 1:200 scale Hogan Wings:

Big version: Width: 1024 Height: 683 File size: 134kb

The Airbus is very top heavy on its stand, and is much bigger than the 747-8F. I want to get the same style of (heavier) stand as the 747 has for the A380 and then have a same style metal plaque made for it with Airbus logo and A380F on it.

Nice - a QF B787 - and is it a Janet 737-200?

Here is my latest arrival, 1:200 scale Boeing 777-200F

B777-200F

B777-200F

Even the fans on the GE90's spin, and they even have the distinct wave like shape of the real ones.

That brings my small (only 1:200 scale) collection to:

- B777-200F
- B787 (limited edition)
- B747-8i (limited edition)
- B747-8F (limited edition)
- British Airways Concorde G-BOAE (Landor)
- Airbus A380F house-colours

I'm thinking of adding Qantas A380-841 to the collection next week, same scale and manufacturer as the A380F. The A380 is the largest model I have, it is wide and very heavy. I'm already starting to run out of space to fit them though.

Hogan Wings does the best models!

Where did you get that HA A330? I've been looking for a HA 767 or A330 model 1:200 scale.

The model is a custom 1/400 scale on a Gemini base model. To the best of my knowledge, HA hasn't commissioned any A-330 models yet and I don't believe anyone makes a HA 767 in 1/200 scale.

Yes they do!   I collect them now because of limited space and their cuteness factor. Small, but realistic.

Congratulations to you all. I see that some of you have set up full airports with runways and all the planes!! You're all doing great!!

I have a few models, mostly Concordes, they are very nice ones, all diecast models. I also have three Singapore Airlines A380s from the inaugural flights, Sydney, London and Narita. They are all boxed like most of my goodies as I am only in this place in Monaco temporarily. I will set them up whenever I move in a new place for a longer amount of time.

Maybe we will get something on the anniversary flight on the 25th, we will see.

Now this is the dream model I would like to have.

An A380 that flies, possibly in the Singapore Airlines or Airbus livery. Also two giant Concordes in that same size, an Air France and a British Airways in registrations of my choice. Maybe also a giant Concorde F-WTSS in the original Areospatiale/Sud Aviation livery.

I could go down to the Heli Air Monaco Heli field during the hours when the helis are not running and fly my toys  cheerful   airplane

There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde
