So, now that the Acceleration expansion pack is available, what does everyone think?? Here's a few of the things I like/dislike:
Likes:
- Slight framerate improvement
- Blurries problem isn't quite as bad as it used to be
- New aircraft and missions are excellent (especially carrier op's and the F-18)
Dislikes:
- I seem to have a problem using the autopilot and time compression. If I use anything higher that 4x time compression, my aircraft starts gyrating up and down (can someone else try using autopilot and see if they get the same problem?? Set your autopilot to hold heading, airspeed and altitude then crank up the time compression to 8x or 16x and see what happens.)
- No uninstall for Acceleration
- No fix for the "blocked" 2D cockpit views. We still can't look behind the aircraft, unobstructed.
As expected, there are still some annoying quirks but in general, I think it's a fairly decent addon. I've also read on another forum the Microsoft/Aces may still address some of the lingering quirks, before releasing the free, standalone version of SP2. Hopefully that's the case...

Hmm, I sometimes get that in regular FS. I thought it was due to the way it tries to maintain a fixed FL. Where you straight and level? It doesn't always happen though. Plus, don't forget any oscillation is far more obvious with time compression.
Personally, I think it's rather good, except I can't seem to use the 2D cockpit so I can't find the switches for anything (too blurry on VC). Anyone know how to get around this?
Flight Instructor: So, do you have a level 60 character as well? (Best thing I have ever heard a flight instructor say!)

I just installed both FSX and acceleration and I do not have any interior lighting nor do the taxi lights seem to work, also I get blurry textures when sitting at an airport for a few minutes.

I'm looking forward to getting it. This wont affect the aircraft ive already installed, right? I'd hate to go through and re-do everything ive done to FSX so far.

It happens at any point during a flight, for me. Level flight, climbing, descending - it does not matter. I did not have this problem prior to installing Acceleration.
Quoting Jamesbaldwyn (Reply 5): I've been told that you can uninstall it from Add/Remove Programs off the Control Panel.
I checked that - unfortunately FSX is no longer on the list, just FSX Acceleration. I have to assume that means it will do a complete uninstall of FSX.

I just installed Acceleration. I really like it. It has fixed multiple problems that were present in in FSX after I upgraded to Vista, and as others have said the frame rates are better. Plus the F/A-18 is a load of fun to fly!

Apparently so. For an expansion pack that includes the as-of-yet not-in-service EH-101/VH-71, you would think their F/A-18 would at least be an "E" model.

I've found this on FSW, has some great shots of Acceleration and DX10. Its 40 pages big so just keep going until you get bored, the better shots however, are on pages 25 >
The EH101 has been in service with other countries for ages. I believe that the reason Boeing licensed out the F/A-18A only was that it too has been around for quite a while...

That happens at higher time compression rates with just about every FS aircraft. It's just a limitation of the sim.

I meant in service with the United States armed forces as the VH-71 Kestrel.

This never happened, prior to installing Acceleration. Time compression is limited to 16x, when using the autopilot, but the gyrations I've experienced are something new. I've since uninstalled Acceleration, and everything is back to normal.

Deactivate crash detection. I doubt MS bothered to improved the crash detection in FSX.
