FS9 How To Open Aircraft Cfg Folder?

Having a major headache...in trying to add a couple of a/c liveries to my fleet. The only avail textures I can find require minor adjustment to the aircraft.cfg files. Trouble is I can't open them, I keep getting the message "Winows is unable to open the file...etc etc"

What software do I need to open the files? The search option that comes up with the message is about as useful as a chocolate teapot! Once the files are open are the adjustments easy to carry out?

PS if anyone can help I would be grateful...but keep it simple if possible! I am a far better pilot than I am computer techie!

Just to further update you James, thanks to your help, I have been able now to update my FS9 fleet with all the gaps in my desired collection..so a HUGE thank you is merited!

Never mind RU list, feckin' hero status seems more appropriate!
