Hey guys,
Ok, so i just go the 512mb Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT OC for christmas and am having a few issues. First off, my downloaded aircraft (Project Airbus, POSKY, etc..) do not run very will at all. My old card, for some reason, delt with my downloaded aircraft slightly better. The frames are down to 13 to 20 fps. With the default aircraft from the FSX acceleration pack, the frames jump as high as 50 or 60 fps. However, when that happens, the picture will be smooth for a second, jump, then smooth and jump again. I still cannot have my settings maxed out. In fact, i have left them the same as they were with my old GeForce 7600 series card.
BTW, enabling Direct X 10 absolutly destroys my graphics quality and my frame rates... not at all what was advertised.
Ive heard friends who have the same card as i do talk about getting 100 fps with maxed out settings. My computer is less than a year old and im running on Vista. Can anyone help me improve my frames and graphics now that i have one of the better graphics cards available? thanks

FSX is mostly CPU based. Upgrading from a 7600 - 8600 wont have much effect maybe 2-3 Frames better than the 7600. I know somebody who recently upgraded from 2.2Ghz Dual Core > 3Ghz Dual core and the boost was immense.
I recommend your next upgrade to be of the CPU to really see an increase in FSX.
It certainly is... and I should rephrase that it is possible in FSX---just not in any real useful way. In certain areas and under the right conditions many people have seen FSX spike over 100fps (some report 200fps) for a second or two, but I've never heard of someone consistently getting more than 50 or 60 fps. Still, the big thing is if its fluid... anything over 20 fps seems to look as good as FSX running at a significantly higher FPS, and I find its usable down to around 8-9fps, unlike FS9 which had a real "slideshow" feel at those speeds.
As mentioned above, CPU power has a major impact on performance. Also, keep in mind that the 8600 is a fairly modest improvement in processing power over the 7600--unlike the 8800GTX and Ultra, is was not built with a "power over price" mentality. I would suggest updating your drivers if you haven't.. new ones were released 20 December that gave my 8-series card a 2-3fps boost when running in DX10 mode.

That's actually happened with me, i had a spike of 250 but that was in an area with nothing but mountains, trees, and a 6,000ft runway. I have a 1.86ghz Intel Core Duo 2 processor, so that is probably where there is more need for improvement.

I'll give that a try, however my DX10 mode dosent work at all even now. Everything becomes blurry with maybe 8-10fps dispite my card boasting "DX10 ready" CPU again perhaps?
