737 Profile Drawing - New And Improved!

In my never ending pursuit to perfect my airliner profile drawing skills, I have spent some serious time over the last few weeks revising and improving my 737 profile pencil-drawing that I've shown here before. ( http://www.airliners.net/aviation-fo.../aviation_hobby/read.main/110416/) Mainly, I significantly darkened and enhanced all of the shading, and tweaked some things I thought I could improve on. Actually, I darkened just about everything, and I think it all "pops-out" and looks more realistic now. I think this "upgraded" version looks much better, and I'm extremely pleased with the results. Thanks for looking, and any comments are welcome and appreciated!

This is a pencil drawing and it measures about 11 1/2 inches from nose to the tip of the horizontal stab, for an approximate scale of 1:115.

Just amazing. This is a very impressive piece of artwork. If you ever get around to making more, I'd love to see an AA impression of some sort. Hell, I'd buy one!

Again, fantastic work!

Cheers,
Cameron

Thanks a lot Cameron. I'd love to do an AA plane sometime; the bare-metal fuselage would be a fun challenge! Maybe a 757 or 777... Unfortunately it will be a while if I do one, as I don't have a lot of spare time to draw unfortunately, and they take quite a while to complete.

WOW! That is amazing. I love to draw jets, and while mine are pretty good, they are nothing compared to that masterpiece. I am going to try to improve my skills so that i can get something like that going. The best things that i have drawn are a 762, 752, 738 that are all about 5 feet long. I did them down to the rivet, but did not add any shading or color. I have to try this now.

Did you look at photos and then sketch it out or what?

Thanks

Graham

As long as the number of take-offs equals the number of landings...you're doing fine.

Thanks Graham!

I'd love to see some of your drawings; five feet-that's huge!

I've found that properly done shading and shadows is what gives character to a profile drawing, and adds realism, which is what I aim for.

This drawing was a long process, and lots of photos were involved of course. The Airliners.net photo database was an extremely helpful resource. Smile

PM me if you've got any more questions. I'd love to help you out if I can.

Mike

Tomorrow I will put on some photos of a drawing I have been working on since I saw this thread. It is a Continental 757-200 N48127, and is almost 5 feet long. I tried doing the shading and it worked out well, but not as well as Pl4nekr4zy did on his.

Cheers,
Graham

Sorry for the poor quality picture, and the time it took me to get it up. In total i spent about 9 hours drawing it. I used two photos from A.net to sketch it from. On the tail the yellow is the wrong color, and there are one to few white lines, but you get the general impression of a CO jet. It is the first time i have ever attempted shading, and I hope to get better.

All that shows up is a very tiny black box, and when I click it, I get a slightly larger black box. Don't use the A.net photo host thing, just use one of the free hosting sites like picoodle and upload it from your machine...

BTW: I got my drawings done, but I've lost three of them somewhere on my kitchen table. But I have two that I'll post once the picture-on-profile bug gets fixed.

Thanks. It's hard to say how many hours I put into this, but its easily several hundred, spread out over almost two years. I work very slowly and sometimes went several months without doing any work on it.

I bet! I use it for my drawings. I try to add the shading, but not color. I would defiantly love to start drawing more. That piece if phenomenal!! Love it!
