OK so final clue....
The African airline featured in the new program is located on a tiny airline close to where we filmed this very old french aircraft type...
Once you find this, the European airline featured is located at 11 o'clock.
This requires a bit of research but it can be done.
Good luck

I think the African Airline is STP Airways from Sao Tomé which operates the Boeing 767 and the European airline is EuroAtlantic Airways from Portugal which operates the Boeing 757 and 767 and owns 38% of STP Airways

Right well Sao Tome becomes out 787th destination... on the day the 787 was scheduled to fly... what a shame.. Anyhow I thought the 757 part of the DVD was very interesting with the overflight of Africa, communications issues, landing on that tiny island on a short runway, weather on the way back, nice night landing in Lisbon and a nice crew. The 767 is rather standard but really nice views in the flightdeck during the 4 takeoffs and landings.
All in all I'm very happy with the program...
The planning right now is for us to release 3 sold out DVDs next week... followed by our 212th airline before our 1st summer closing... and I will say I'm again very excited about this next program but no clues yet, sorry

It is indeed Euroatlantic and STP..even though I love the 757 and 767, I have to admit flying BRU-TFS-BRU twice (and with the exact same aircraft type) is not really appealing..

As the producer of this series one of my aims has always been to bring our viewers the maximum out of each program... It would have been just as easy to make this program strictly on the 757 to Sao Tome... not to mention a lot cheaper to produce while bringing in the same revenue.. but I think our viewers are used to getting a packed program with as much as possible...
We normally would have done the Tenerife roundtrip once to complete the program but I decided to do it twice for it would allow us to give our viewers some more and different views on the pilots flying the approaches and landings as well as takeoffs. The 767 happens to be one of those aircraft that gives a few more possibilities thanks to its size so we just went for it... Off course another destination would have been nicer but the choice was Hurghada in the middle of the night or another Tenerife in daylight...

The next airline joining is the 9th member of one of the airline alliances and by that I mean that we have already featured 8 airlines of that alliance in the series.

Have you seen programs such as Vancouver Island Air and Rusts? Loads of great scenery on these. As for operations, the flybe DVD is one with a good tour of operations..
At 3 hours long, I'd say there's plenty of time for all these things on each program and most do already have these aspects (and more) included.

Thats great to hear...
While our goal is try to give an overview of airlines and routes all across the globe... we also want to try to fly each type and that includes the A380... but it may be another few years before we get a decent agreement in place with an airline in order to cover that one...
We may end up getting the 747-8 before we do the A380... who knows...
I hate to say this in public but its very unfortunate that airlines like Singapore, Qantas, Emirates and BA are extremely uncooperative!

Scenery and operations is what is in every of our program... We focus a part of each DVD on showing both the views on takeoff and landings... as well as during the flight.. whenever there is something to see off course, sometimes you're above the clouds and there is nothing.
Over the years we've experimented with exactly what amount of outside cockpit (scenery) as opposed to inside cockpit views people wanted to see... I think we are about where we were looking to be and the current formula is working... give or take a few percent one way or another and also depending on the programs.. some will have more of one or another.
As far as operations... everything you see on our programs can be called operations...
Maybe you are referring to being inside an operations office? if so, thats been shown on a variety of programs as well where we will let a flight dispatcher go over the flight plan, weather or have the pilots go over it in the dispatch office... some programs have gone into a bit more details we far as showing them planning flights, aircraft etc...

JP - On a similar theme I have a slight request (and please please don't take this as a negative comment in any way) but.....would it be possible for you to film the takeoffs/landing with a more wide angle view sometimes? Sometimes I feel the view is a little too zoomed in and only shows what's going on through the windows. It would be good if we could see the panels and through the windows at the same time a bit more.
Again it's not a criticism I just though maybe it's something you guys could look into.

That is indeed a note our cameramen have however most of the time the light makes such an ideal shot impossible... KLM Cityhopper, KLM UK, KLM Exel and Transavia have all been featured, not sure why KLM has been so resistent in joining.

Btw JustPlanes, - just an idea, But I reckon it would be something different if you were to film and get a detailed explanation of the aircraft galleys and how the f/as prepare the meals and service. I know you show cabin shots of the service and galleys in most of your programs but in the ones that I've seen theres been no explanation of how everything works and what each part does. The galleys are probably the part of the aircraft that I know the least about and it would be good to get a bit more knowledge about.

Actually we have done a few programs that present and explain galleys... don't ask me which ones... just too much out there to remember that... We've also had some food preparation and presentation footage.. mostly on the Austrian long haul programs if my memory serves me right. Footage of the cook preparing the meals etc...
On the SN Brussels program the purser takes more than half hour to present his duties and the crews work on the flight.

Well, according to the Star Alliance website five airlines founded the Star Alliance..the sixth member was VARIG, and apparently Ansett Australia and Air New Zealand joined at the same time, so technically they both would be the 7th member..but since Ansett is no longer with us, I'm gonna guess the new WAR DVD will feature Air New Zealand!
Quoting PHBUF (Reply 47): I'm gonna guess the new WAR DVD will feature Air New Zealand!
That would be really cool, also a good possibility since Justplanes did a DVD on Freedom Air a few years back which was part of Air NZ so they already have a previously existing relationship.

So far the 8 Star Alliance videos JustPlanes has covered are Lufthansa, United, Varig, Austrian, Spanair, South African, Swiss and Turkish Airways - I think thats the 8th one.
So that leaves:
AC - Unlikely
SK - Even chance
TG - Even chance
NZ - Even chance
NH - Even chance
SQ - Highly unlikely
BD - Even chance
OZ - Even chance
LO - Even chance
US - Highly unlikely
CA - Not a chance
FM - Highly unlikely
MS - Highly unlikely
TP - Even chance
Without knowing the relationship JustPlanes has with those airlines, I would say that SK, BD and LO are possibilities since they normally cover a lot of European airlines. The Asian airlines like TG, NH and OZ are hard to guess since JP hasn't been in that area too much but they probably a bit more unlikely than the others. I'm going to go with either SK or NZ.

1 minor correction in your list of 8 Star Alliance airlines... I did not include Varig since they are no longer in it... but I did include Blue1... no big deal though...
Your conclusion at the bottom of your posting is very accurate I must say... I guess in 12 hours or so you will find out who is really joining the series.

Is it the case then that a new management at an airline that has refused to work with you in the past can make way for new negotiations? (not saying AC refused to work with you as I obviously have no idea what the background is on that one).

Great-looking DVD with interesting destinations. The pilots speak a very clear and comprehensible English which is very important to me. I'll surely consider buying this one.
In the end of the preview video the FO said '..., hope some day we'll get to see you on the 777 or 787 AC is going to get'.
Could this be a secret hint for upcoming DVDs? Air Canada Triple 7 would be a stunner!
Another question, are you generally allowed to film in the cockpits of US-based carriers? Am I right supposing your already released videos from the USA were filmed pre 9/11?

Nah.. dont really think anyone would be interested...
I will give out a little bit of info on a program we just finished though... because I'm excited
This is nbr 4 on the list so not due for release till late September I believe... however in my book it will be the best 737NG program we've ever made...
It includes the longest flight we've ever done on the type (more than 6 hours) to 2 destinations we have never been to...
That is followed by a trip into a place that was extremely foggy and leads to a missed approach followed by an autoland....
Then 2 roundtrips to sort of dangerous airports including 1 we had never been to...
There is a landing that focuses just on the instruments and shows the speeds during the touchdown and rollout which I had never seen before..
And on top of that the crews were really superb...
So we're looking at a fantastic program here...
Although the 3 programs that will be released before that are equally great and very excited about the 2 new airlines joining at the end of August and start of September!!

And on top of that the crews were really superb...
So we're looking at a fantastic program here...
Although the 3 programs that will be released before that are equally great and very excited about the 2 new airlines joining at the end of August and start of September!!
That was it for today...

You trying to kill me with all this suspense!! Anyway, around that time I'm busy with college, not like now having nothing to do. But let me just say this..........I love the 737NG!!!! It's on of my most preferred commercial aircraft. Don't know why.......just is.
You say longest flight you ever did on the 737NG. I think I might know what it is, but don't want to say anything as it's way to early.
right now I'm selling two classic Just Planes / World Air Routes VHS tapes..the Turkish Airlines A340-300 and the Flight in the Cockpit 8: SABENA. Both items will end in approx 2 days from now so you'll have to hurry if you're interested! Message me for more info
oh and just to be clear..I'm selling them on eBay
and JP, indeed, your description of the new 737 DVD is magnificent..can't wait to find out more!

Can i please put in a thought for a possible destination if ever the opportunity comes up. Sal in Cape Verde. I know you will have little say in the destinations but if you do.

Certainly... its all about 2s
its coming in 2 Fridays
its 2 types of airplanes
each of the 2 planes has 2 engines
each plane is flown by 2 pilots
and a total of only 2 Captains on the DVD
Goes to 2 pairs of destinations
all flights are under 2 hours
2 of the flights are under 1 hour
if you review all the above carefully for at least 2 days...
there should really not be more than 2 possibilities

Bush flying would involve a lot of short legs and usually involves only one pilot..most of the time that is. It does look like it's gonna be something small, i.e. turboprops or something like that.

JP, was just reading about Continental Airlines getting in trouble over in India for security checking of an ex-President before he boarded one of their flights. And to think they threw such a fit about your camera man filming a walk around. I believe the Indian government is a little out of intelligence when it comes to airport security.

SHORT HAUL
2 of the flights are under 1 hour
VERY SHORT HAUL

Are we talking something like 777-300 ie a new series. I must say JPV you know how to keep us guessing by saying "technically;" or are we looking at some Russian built aircraft such as the L4T. Is one of the airlines based in Northern Europe?

PTY-MVD and PTY-EZE are aprox. seven hours long.
Another possibility could be Alaska Airlines. Their ANC-ORD is about 6 hours, and some of the airports they serve up in Alaska haven´t got the nicest weather....

An overview of the A320 family programs in the last 3 years...
In 2007 there was
Eurofly... but that was also more about the A330
Air Berlin... but that was mostly about the B737-700 and 800 and some Fk-100
In 2008 there was
Cyprus Airways... also included the A330
In 2009 so far
Hamburg... but again most of the program was on the 737-300 and 737-700
Kingfisher... the only strictly A320 program in 3 years!
and now Austrian...
So on average only 2 programs a year for the last 3 years... its hard not to cover them as they're all over the place and so many airlines operate them...
and indeed Austrian has been one success story so doing this type was kind of unavoidable...

True, six A32X programs in the last three years, but the A32X has been the main focus on:
Air Arabia
Air Luxor
Armenian
Dutchbird
Goodjet
Kingfisher
MyTravel
and has also been a major feature on:
Air Berlin
Cyprus
Eurofly
Hamburg
Qatar
Spanair
so for me personally, it's been covered (very well I might say, especially on Dutchbird, Kingfisher and MyTravel) so my interest for another A32X DVD is somewhat low..nevertheless, like I said, all of your Austrian programs have been great and I do admit that Sarajevo and Bucharest are very interesting destinations!

PHBUF It's not about the actual plane so much as the crews, routes and parts of the world in my view. I've seen enough cockpit presentations but JP has hinted that they will become less and less seen as there have been lots already. I think JP is doing a fantastic job to get the great crews and interesting places that we see.
Of course there are things that I would like to see more of, Russia planes, Asian routes for example, but these are just too hard to get a deal done for filming I think. I would really like to see another Silkway IL76 type program, maybe with the Tu154, or a program from China. I'm sure JP and team would like to make these as much as we would like to watch them but the oppertunites are just not there at the moment I think.

You are very right... While we obviously cover a certain type of aircraft in each program, its not as much about that type as it is about the airline, the routes etc... Thats why we went from Flight in the Cockpit to calling it World Air Routes...
In each program we try to cover new destinations or at last new routes.
I think if we go over the number of 737s we've covered that would be far higher than the A320...
We would certainly love to cover more Russian planes but unfortunately that does not seem to be working for a variety of reasons... Luckily we have been able to cover a number of them so as to give a taste of how they are operated...
We just completed the production part of the 4th program in line for release, will be October I guess... just as excited about that one as the next 3 so things are looking up for Sept and Oct... and all 4 are around 4 hours...

I can only hope for another program comparable to Ameristar Jet Charter..really loved the business jets (ok, used for cargo/freight, but biz jets nonetheless ) and I can only dream about a program involving a Gulfstream or Global Express or something like it. I've always thought the Ameristar program was one of the best of all DVDs I've seen

Thanks very much Midcon.. I have to agree with you... the crews are doing most of it though.. The EuroAtlantic 757 were great pilots and its a fun route as well..
The Air Canada 767 pilots were amazing....
and the crews on the British 733 to Victoria Falls and Kulula 734 to Cape Town are very special as you will see. The other 3 were really good but those 2 really make this DVD and their part accounts for most of the DVD.
Flying in and out of Lanseria was a nice addition as well...
Now as far as the next program...
What can I say... I am very excited...
New airline to the series... and new airline in general...
There is a new type of aircraft as well... even though its really very close to other types we've featured... Some very scenic approaches... and one that will certainly rank as extremely interesting specially for flight simmers I think....
Oh and the program is also 4 hours long...
Have a nice weekend!

I am going to guess either Sky Airline with the 737-900 or Cargoitalia with the MD11F.
Both are new types (at least to DVD as far as I am aware) and both airlines are newish.

What can I say? I'm good! I can't wait to get this one. I should order the GOL one at the same time. It's on my want list. Should be an exciting program!
It totally is very exciting...
David Neeleman opens the program so that, to me anyway, is already exciting!
The 1st trip is to Santos Dumont and the approach into and departure out of are superb as always.
We get to fly the Embraer 195 for the 1st time.
The crews were great and lots of presentations of this high tech aircraft.
One of the most exciting features of this DVD : Azul has equipped their entire fleet with HUDs (Head Up Displays) and somehow we manage to follow one of the approaches and landings through the HUD and we see what the pilot would be seeing... Very cool to say the least!
The program is also 4 hours long so its packed and includes a very nice walkaround, 2 flights in the cabin....
The trailer will be on You Tube Thursday evening and 63 pictures on our website!

There are a few more Flight in the Cockpits planned however it all depends on when there is an open slot for a release... As long as we have many new programs in line it may take a while... it something slows down there we might be able to fit one in...
1st crew on Comair was great... wait till you meet the 2nd one... awesome!

I have received my Comair DVD yesterday, what a brilliant dvd, the crews are absolutely professional and really go out of their way to explain everything in detail. Plus the beautiful scenery. I really recommend that every JPV fan add this one to their collection. Thank you so much.

Will the stories come out in your autobiography?????????? Ha Ha
Nah.. dont really think anyone would be interested...
I don't think Aires of Colombia flies a B737 route that is 6 hours long...

I am going to guess Copa Airlines because they have the longest B737NG routes in the world over six hours. I know this does not match JP's clue of the first 3 letters of the alphabet. Copa owns 90% of AeroRepublica of Columbia.

So take the 3rd one in there and you get the 1st half of this airline's call sign..
Then take the 3 first letters of the alphabet.... and you get the 2nd half of this airline's call sign...
With this someone HAS to find it... come on guys...

Working with TUIfly was a total pleasure! Now we had already worked with Hapag Lloyd and Hapag Lloyd Express so we were no strangers there but we were able to pick the destinations which is not always the case...
We picked Sal and Boa Vista because we had never been to the Cape Verde Islands so that was great.
We picked Calvi because that's not a place many airlines go and its an interesting approach.
We picked Innsbruck because its never boring to fly in and out of there.
We got Venice thrown in in there because we had planned to be with this 1 crew for the day... but that turned out super luck as we got a missed approach and autoland at minimums... I mean you literally see the runway and touch it at the same time... as you will see on the You Tube trailer...
Besides that all crews were great, talked a lot... and its not easy when you're asking pilots to do all presentations in 2 languages!
We also filmed a few things we had never done before such as showing just the instruments for 1 takeoff and 1 landing... and some other things...

Quoting 777guy (Reply 175): I am curious about the difference of running time for German [228 mins] versus English [177mins]?
The main reason the German version is longer is because of the cockpit presentation in German... and other than that maybe a few of the presentations were a bit longer in German... We had 2 different Captains do the walkaround... 1 did it in English and another one in German at another airport.. its possible one of those is longer than the other...
but with the English version being 3 hours you're not missing anything...

The reason I am asking is I saw on ebay today someone selling both these DVDs for $75! In the add he says they are very rare and that you only released about 100 copies worldwide! I was a bit surprised by this and thought it likely false advertising.
Someone had even bought one at $75. I'm not saying it's not worth that much it's just I saw some in an aviation shop near me in the UK for £22.

I knew there was a reason thats why I asked... and indeed I understand your question...
Actually he's exaggerating a bit. We only released 20 copies of the DVD...
Considering our production costs are around $20,000 per program... with 20 copies out there they should be selling at $1,000 each! or if as he says there were indeed 100 copies made they should be selling at $200 each, so his price of $75 is a steal...

Depends on the airline... In the majority of the cases we pick but not always... But even when we pick there are a lot of factors to consider so its not all about just picking a place we haven't been to before... Schedules, crew, types etc.. always come into play too...

Because of the length of the flight they have to change crews in the Cape Verde Islands.
The crew stays there until the next flight...

Not sure which program 757767lover is referring to... The latest program is not the 1st dual language program we've released so I'm confused...
The latest program (TUIfly) is the 3rd to be released with a German version (Austrian & Hamburg were the other 2).
The reason we've done this is that 75% of the sales of those titles occur in German speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland).
The English version is not affected by this... You get what you would normally get. We just add certain presentations in German so the local viewers in those countries can get things like the instruments, the briefings etc... done in their language since they are the vast majority buying those specific titles...
That sounds good. While I don't have a problem with understanding English speaking pilots (some are really good at that, some others not really...) it is nice to see a DVD partly or completely produced in my first language This one is definitely on my wish list...

So the English version is 3 hours and the German version is 4 hours. In spite of that some of my personal favorites are German Airlines such as such as LTU.
It looks like JP's relationship with AC is really developing well ... maybe potential for some more productions in the future ... particularly the 787, whenever it gets into service!

Hello kids...
Let me just say that when the market is ready for the next format, we will be there. Right now it is not... When you produce the amount of titles we produce you can't afford to be producing different formats....
We were the first ones to switch from VHS to DVD but only once we knew for sure that DVD was going to be the next thing... it will be the same this time... so I'm afraid that until that time comes we will continue the current format.
Also you're comparing us to a company who's produced 5 or 6 titles and may produce a couple more... If we were producing 1 or 2 titles a year we would have them in Blue Ray as well...
Hope that answers this question... if not let me know...
Have a nice weekend!

and something entirely else..from a commercial point of view, wouldn't it be a good idea to, permanently or temporary, give a discount when one purchases multiple titles of the same airline? So both Westjets for a discounted price, both Air Canadas, etc etc. Of course I'm not talking about a 30 dollar discount or anything, more like 50 bucks instead of 60 bucks..any thoughts on that JP?

I for one am quite gald you are sticking with the current format. I mean Blue Ray DVDs of big movie titles are still damn expensive in the UK so I hate to think what JP would have to charge to make it work financially!
One thing Pilots Eye TV do that I really like is the very wide angle shots. It would be great if you could do more shots like that JP. Maybe something like standing at the back of the cockpit and getting a view over the whole thing so you really get that "being there" feel. (if you know what I mean). Also some out the window wide angle would be cool.

One thing I would like to see but I doubt it's possible to do would be to be able to get a kind of cashback for the DVD offers you have if bought outside the US. I mean we have a little shop at my local EMA and I like to support this two man shop as they have been very friendly to me in the past. As a result I miss out on all the offers JP does through their online shop. I would certainly buy more if I could get the offers without having to buy them from the US. I really understand if this is not possible, it was just something I thought last time you had an offer on.

Widescreen would require a big investment for us as far as filming equipment, editing equipment etc... and that would just be temporary as we will again need to make the investment when we move to the next format and we can't do this twice so I'm afraid we have to wait until the time is right to move onto the next format... If we were to go to widescreen now and it seems in 6 or 12 months the market is ready for blue ray then we would have a problem so we have to be patient now....
As far as discounts... You need to realize that the cost of producing these DVDs is extremely high compared to the demand... If we were producing big numbers like a Disney we could give them away... but because we're not I'm afraid you will never get a discount on popular titles such as Air Canada, Westjet, Oasis etc... that is really impossible... We give discount on slower selling titles from time to time just to move them out because we need the space more than anything... When you have more than 100,000 DVDs in stock its tough when a new title comes out and requires new space in the warehouse...
