I'm pretty sure this topic will qualify for this section of the forum. I am interested to see what everyone's computer, joystick, and other accessories looks like. What version of flight simulator do you currently operate, and your current payware add-ons? I'll start. Let the posts begin!

My G-15 Keyboard.

My tower Antec 900 Case,

Copycat! That's mine too! lol

Anyways, my rig: (and I'd post pics if the image tags were working for me)  banghead

Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz, OC'ed to 3.67 (i took it up to 4.2Ghz once, stable)
ASUS P6T LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard
2X SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 in X-fire mode
G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin SDRAM DDR3 1600
CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W Power Supply
2X Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb in RAID 0, total 1.3TB
Acer X223Wbd Black 22" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor
ZALMAN CNPS9900LED 120mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler
Logitech G9 Gaming mouse
Logitech Extreme 3D PRO Joystick (does the job fine)

This rig obliterates anything I throw at it. I hardly play FS anymore, but I can play Mirror's Edge, Crysis, COD4/5, Far Cry 2, FEAR 2 and all the other newest games fully maxed out no problem whatsoever. I got over 100FPS with FS9 at full max settings and with 20GB worth in mods.

OTOH...

How the heck did you pull that one off? FSX is the only game that will slow my rig down. What resolution are you running it at? I'm not doubting you at all, but I just find it inconceivable that you can max out FSX with just 1 video card, with 1/4 of the total video memory I got, slower RAM than mine, and (i assume, but you never specified) an older generation processor.

I'd really be interested to know.  scratchchin

I have tweaked several features throughout windows such as services that aren't needed what so ever. I also run a 64 bit processor, with an amazing CPU cooler. I may have older hardware, but this rig has a lot of love, and patience. It's like a relationship, This computer and I have endured such times together, we have bonded LoL. The main reason I can run FSX, is because of the deactivated service bogging your actual processor down. Shut them down and you will be amazed in the performance you gain. Give me your OS config, and I will tell you what you need and don't need. I have everything overclocked, I also run the DDR3 ram as well as you. But to be honest I selected my parts for a certain job, and they handle them well. You have the I7 chip, but I am rather shocked I am able to keep up with you as well as I am. Just because it has a hefty price tag doesn't mean it's the best. Choose wisely. In regards to your question I run my Resolution at 1680x1050 at 4AA

I have done so already. I have Vista heavily tweaked. I only have 10 services starting (vs otherwise 30+) during startup. I also use Avira Antivir as it uses very little resources. I'm VERY anal about what runs in the background, as my old rig was a painfully slow P4. But I've found that in this computer turning processes off doesn't make any real notable difference. In the P4, all it did was quit stuttering. But turning off processes doesn't really do anything in regards to FPS. Mainly what you're doing is freeing up RAM memory.

For $280 it was a steal. The core 2 quads, which I almost made the mistake of buying, aren't much cheaper, and the I7 is 35% faster despite a comparably lower clock speed in some cases. Also, the I7 processor have been the most overclockable processors to date.

Ah, so that explains a lot. I was running it at the same res but at 16XAA. What FPS do you usually see?

It's just frustrating because all my other games will AT LEAST gimme 30FPS. FSX would go to single digits some times depending on where I was. They really need to develop a new game engine for FS. It is horribly inefficient.

16XAA is pointless The eye doesn't see that much, that's why your frames are lacking. The human eye sees 60 FPS no more. Turn down your AA that will take a major unneeded load off your Graphics card, if you don't believe me that you wont notice the 16AA v.s. the 4 look for yourself. The more memory you have freed up the more performance you will get. So shutting down those processes does more than you actually know. I bought the Core 2 when they first came out, and have never had a problem with and am very happy with. I see 25 - 40 frames on average. But like I said turn down your AA and just enable your Edge smoothing. I agree, they say Windows 7 is going to be the bomb, but I was reading around, and I understand it's not the full release, but XP still did a lot better in gaming as far as specs were concerned.

Here's what I "fly" with every day...The logitech G-11 keyboard, G5 mouse, Saitek yoke, throttle quadrant, rudder pedals, and the switch panel. I use two screens, on 22" Samsung for flying and another 17" Samsung for looking at charts, approach plates, airport diagrams, etc... Here you can see a LH A300-600, I just joined LH Virtual airlines, and am getting ready to go! I am very pleased with this setup, pretty sweet IMHO. Big grin
