Well I have FSX and I don't like it. It runs way too slow on my computer, besides, I like FS2004 a lot better. I installed FS2004 on my computer that has a new Win 7 Ultimate. It's not running well. What I mean by that, is the screen gets frozen, while the rest of the sim keeps going. For example, I'm pressing the S key, to switch views from cockpit to outside view... well I can't. I can hear the sound change, but the panel still shows. Also, it would work for 4-5 minutes then again, the same problem. The airplane keeps flying, but I'm stuck on a frozen screenshot.
Is there a patch that I need to run this with Win 7?
here's my computer specs:
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+ 2.21Ghz
3.00GB of RAM
32-bit operating system
Card NVDIA GForce 6600 GT
By the way, FSX runs fine, except a bit slow. If I turn down (I mean really down) the graphics, it runs okay.... 30 - 40 fps, but that means almost zero textures, etc. Most of my add-ons are for FS2004 and that's why I wanna use that one.

Not at all. The OS is not the problem. You don't even need compatibility mode. I have Win7 x64 Pro and it runs like a charm without any wizardry or special patches.
It sounds like a video card driver issue to me.
But lets keep it simple. First thing you should try anytime FS fails to start, crashes frequently, etc. delete the FS9.cfg file. It will restore FS back to factory defaults, but you keep all your addons and such.
See if that works, regardless if it does or doesn't then do the following (update your video drivers the proper way):

No problems running FS9 under W7 Ultimate 64, actually it runs even better as I now can utilize all that installed memory that XP 32 could not handle. Also, it's a lot more stable, I haven't had a single crash since (FS9, not aircraft, I have littered quite a few airports with aircraft debris )
