Koru Tiki 2, The Sequel - The Voyage Home

Here we go down to fine detail planning for Koru Tiki's return trip to CHC, as stated in the previous thread the outline routing will be...

EDI- one of ABZ/INV/LSI - FAE - KEF - YQX - BGR - BOS - JFK - PHL - IAD - Undecided - ORD - OMA - Undecided - DFW - ABQ - PHX - LAS - LAX - SFO - SEA - ANC - ATU - PKC - VVO - CTS - NRT - KIX - TPE - TAG - ROR - POM - HIR - NOU - AKL - WLG - CHC

Now the ABZ/INV/LSI stop may be excluded. I am having problems installing the Scotflight scenery that would cover these airports. Having a similar problem with Vagar (Faroes) so the first leg might be EDI - KEF direct, but I'm not giving up on that yet. Any requests for specific stops and suggested scenery will be welcomed.

Just curious, but.....why DFW, ABQ and PHX? Love those cities but ORD, OMA ( ya got to say hello to Erik) and straight to LAS makes more logistical sense to me. Unless there's another reason for paying landing fees and burning fuel that I'm not aware of.

Well, I can understand DFW. They have the coolest inter-termnial maglev shuttle that gives a great view of all the gates. Last time I was there I saw not one but two ATA L-1011's!!!! You don't think wasn't drooling, eh?
Well, actually... I wasn't. I got a boner instead.

So, I'll give ya DFW but PHX and ABQ? Here's another three letter acronym for your itinerary, WTF?
Has Koru Tiki become allergic to jetways or obsessed with cheap native american turquois jewelry?

C'mon Adian. If there's anything you need to talk about, we're all here for you.

I'll just go DUBLIN - BAHRAIN - SINGAPORE - SYDNEY for my return back to home territory, when I get the chance. I think Dublin Bahrain should be just possible, I have a flight plan mapped out, with unusual double supersonic sections (split by a subsonic part). I've never tried that before - but I'm told it was done in real life.

And maybe a hop across the Pacific to NZ afterwards - which I've done before - and it's barely even long enough for a decent meal service. Sydney to New Zealand in real life on Concorde was a very fast flight indeed.

OK Koru Tiki is on her way home to Aotearoa. Tears and goodbyes to Mommy all over. Decided to route the first part of the trip EDI-INV-LSI-FAE for some island hopping. Weather was not too bad either, though was quite choppy on final at INV.

Which Faroes Islands scenery are you using, or at least hoping to use?

I'm using the Vagar (airport) scenery by Tim Clayton with the Mesh & Landclass scenery by Ryan Andersen and Peter H. Poulsen. The latter is a bit tricky to use, but it looks awesome once it works.

It wouldn't be the sand Koru Tiki would be worried about, it would be running out of sand that will be the problem! The design feature on the fuselage in called the Pacific Wave. If tried to land Koru Tiki at BRR she would end up with Atlantic waves on her.

Nope but her pilot is as fan of the cool photoreal scenery available, downloaded and already installed in FS for PHX and ABQ.

Just landed in the exotic and tropical (...not!) Shetland Isles. In the main a pleasant flight except for the last 15 min. Unusually clear weather for the Highlands meant for some nice views as far as the Orkneys. From Fair Isle onward the weather really closed in and on approach into LSI it was really crappy, low vis, high wind and lashing rain. Sadly as this landing was so challenging I didn't get a good screenie of the landing.

I have included out of interest a screenshot in which I have highlighted the path of what is officially the world's shortest scheduled airline service. Westray (WRY) to Papa Westray (PPW) at a distance of under 1nm and a scheduled time of 2min but has been done in as little as 45 seconds.

Bit late with this update, not done much flying due to work, barbies and Rugby on TV past 2 nights. (cpd don't mention the All Blacks game!    )

Quite a frustrating flight from a screenie point of view. Misty foggy and overcast make for most of the way makes not for good screenies. Interesting take off and landing due to the runways of both airports being rather short. Only remotely decent opportunity for an in-flight screenie was passing over the Isle of Foula. This small island approximately 30 miles west of the Shetland capital Lerwick must be one of the remotest in the UK.

Hee hee guess who was at the beach on Thursday!

By contrast to all that, Koru Tiki has now arrived in Iceland. Slighty better sector weather wise, still misty and overcast at Vagar but not quite as thick on arrival. Cloud cover persisted until just short of the Icelandic coast, then the skies cleared giving a good view of THAT volcano (no I'm not even going to try to spell it correctly!) and of Reykjavik the world's most notherly capital city. Just after that KT ran into more muck and Keflavik, despite being so relatively close to Reykjavik was overcast and foggy. So KT is at her most northerly extreme of her trip, from now on its, south south south (with a few deviations!)

Atlanic crossed! Koru Tiki now safely arrive at Gander, Newfoundland. Now ready to start the trek across North America. Trip from Keflavik was typical North Atlantic...plenty cloud! Things brightened up a little on arrival in Gander, though was very very blustery on final, which made for an interesting landing. First airport in snow on this trip.
