Here we go down to fine detail planning for Koru Tiki's return trip to CHC, as stated in the previous thread the outline routing will be...
EDI- one of ABZ/INV/LSI - FAE - KEF - YQX - BGR - BOS - JFK - PHL - IAD - Undecided - ORD - OMA - Undecided - DFW - ABQ - PHX - LAS - LAX - SFO - SEA - ANC - ATU - PKC - VVO - CTS - NRT - KIX - TPE - TAG - ROR - POM - HIR - NOU - AKL - WLG - CHC
Now the ABZ/INV/LSI stop may be excluded. I am having problems installing the Scotflight scenery that would cover these airports. Having a similar problem with Vagar (Faroes) so the first leg might be EDI - KEF direct, but I'm not giving up on that yet. Any requests for specific stops and suggested scenery will be welcomed.

Just curious, but.....why DFW, ABQ and PHX? Love those cities but ORD, OMA ( ya got to say hello to Erik) and straight to LAS makes more logistical sense to me. Unless there's another reason for paying landing fees and burning fuel that I'm not aware of.
Well, I can understand DFW. They have the coolest inter-termnial maglev shuttle that gives a great view of all the gates. Last time I was there I saw not one but two ATA L-1011's!!!! You don't think wasn't drooling, eh?
Well, actually... I wasn't. I got a boner instead.
So, I'll give ya DFW but PHX and ABQ? Here's another three letter acronym for your itinerary, WTF?
Has Koru Tiki become allergic to jetways or obsessed with cheap native american turquois jewelry?

I'll just go DUBLIN - BAHRAIN - SINGAPORE - SYDNEY for my return back to home territory, when I get the chance. I think Dublin Bahrain should be just possible, I have a flight plan mapped out, with unusual double supersonic sections (split by a subsonic part). I've never tried that before - but I'm told it was done in real life.
And maybe a hop across the Pacific to NZ afterwards - which I've done before - and it's barely even long enough for a decent meal service. Sydney to New Zealand in real life on Concorde was a very fast flight indeed.

I'm using the Vagar (airport) scenery by Tim Clayton with the Mesh & Landclass scenery by Ryan Andersen and Peter H. Poulsen. The latter is a bit tricky to use, but it looks awesome once it works.

It wouldn't be the sand Koru Tiki would be worried about, it would be running out of sand that will be the problem! The design feature on the fuselage in called the Pacific Wave. If tried to land Koru Tiki at BRR she would end up with Atlantic waves on her.

Just landed in the exotic and tropical (...not!) Shetland Isles. In the main a pleasant flight except for the last 15 min. Unusually clear weather for the Highlands meant for some nice views as far as the Orkneys. From Fair Isle onward the weather really closed in and on approach into LSI it was really crappy, low vis, high wind and lashing rain. Sadly as this landing was so challenging I didn't get a good screenie of the landing.
I have included out of interest a screenshot in which I have highlighted the path of what is officially the world's shortest scheduled airline service. Westray (WRY) to Papa Westray (PPW) at a distance of under 1nm and a scheduled time of 2min but has been done in as little as 45 seconds.

Quite a frustrating flight from a screenie point of view. Misty foggy and overcast make for most of the way makes not for good screenies. Interesting take off and landing due to the runways of both airports being rather short. Only remotely decent opportunity for an in-flight screenie was passing over the Isle of Foula. This small island approximately 30 miles west of the Shetland capital Lerwick must be one of the remotest in the UK.

Hee hee guess who was at the beach on Thursday!
By contrast to all that, Koru Tiki has now arrived in Iceland. Slighty better sector weather wise, still misty and overcast at Vagar but not quite as thick on arrival. Cloud cover persisted until just short of the Icelandic coast, then the skies cleared giving a good view of THAT volcano (no I'm not even going to try to spell it correctly!) and of Reykjavik the world's most notherly capital city. Just after that KT ran into more muck and Keflavik, despite being so relatively close to Reykjavik was overcast and foggy. So KT is at her most northerly extreme of her trip, from now on its, south south south (with a few deviations!)

Um... this, as you say, "part of the world" happens to be the closest thing to being in Mexico and eating Mexican food that you can get without actually being in Mexico. It's probably better because the health standards are more stringent norte de la frontera.

After a few nights away from Flight Simming (night shift sucks!), and this evening at the Rugby (Go Canterbury!), back in the swing of things. Koru Tiki now arrived in Boston. Thank you Massachusetts for the worst visibilty of the trip so far. 400 metres visibility on final! So not much in the way of quality screenies on approach then. Did my best though. Haha! Then they'd want their name on the ship. It'd be the "Koru IKEA". They could create their own line of IKEA aircraft seats called "Baarf". Every passenger would be given a boarding pass and an IKEA "Baarf" chair to assemble with a small allen wrench and the typical IKEA hieroglyphic instructions. After the flight, passengers can keep their IKEA "Baarf" chair for use on future "Koru IKEA" flights. Of course, half of the passengers won't be able to understand the directions and the other half will claim that they're missing some pieces. So, you'll need several IKEA bean bag chairs stuffed in the overheads for those morons. Maybe hire AerDee to help assemble the chairs and /or throw the complete idiots off the airplane. Well BATMAN where were you? I missed you man! Departed ORD for OMA...cool scenery for OMA for such a surprisingly small file size.
Rwy 9L take off at ORD made for a nice over head view of the airport. Broken cloud (to paraphrase an unnamed WN crew member, no I couldn't fix them) most of the way, but not much n the way of turbulence. Landing in fair conditions on Rwy 36 at OMA.
Owing to ongoing scenery issues at DFW similar to those encountered at IAD, I will be changing the itinerary slightly. As a result the DFW stop will be replaced by IAH. Am also looking at the possibility of an intermediate stop, perhaps St Louis or Kansas City, any opinions for either of these (or your own suggestions with scenery recommendations) will be gratefully received.

Batman, don't waste money on "professional" help. Get the do it yourself "Home Surgeon Kit" from Ronco. Only 3 easy payments of $19.99 and you can save thousands on medical bills. It'll pay for itself the first time you use it. About a year ago, I discovered that my sinus pain was due to a crayon lodged deep in my sinus cavity. Luckily, the "Home Surgeon Kit" comes with various attachments for body cavities. Within hours I was feeling tip top and nobody ever noticed that my "purple mountain majesty" was actually violet.

Yes, the PHX photoreal scenery is quite nice. I also have packs for LAS, RNO, HNL, and DFW. But these were all from the Megascenery people. I've contemplated buying some of the Megascenery Earth but it's too expensive for what it is, I think.

In the below screenie, I tagged the Etiwanda Power Station. They use two GE turbofan engines to generate electricity.

After review, mi casa would be more like to the right of the tip of the vertical stabilizer.
If you fly just north of KONT about 2 mi. you'll see an array of radio antennas. That's @ Vineyard Ave and 9th St. My shop is directly east 1mi. The dark strip 1 blk. south 8th St. is the Metrolink rail line.

Thanks to all of you here for the kind comments on other threads. Christchurch has a hard period of recovery ahead of it but such is the spirit of the folks down here I'm sure the city will rise again. This may not be my home city but I feel very much at home here and while I feel such sadness at seeing the heart being torn out of the city and the grief of so many people who have lost loved ones, it must be tempered with the resolve to carry on.
My thoughts lie with those souls who lost their lives one week ago today and those that mourn their passing. They also are with the incredibly brave people, some of whom I have had the honour of caring for, who are just beginning their journey on the long road to recovery from such horrendous injuries. It has been a humbling experience to witness your fortitude at this time.

SEA obviously favours it's home town metal judging by the crappy wx that awaited Koru Tiki on her arrival there. Really nasty crosswind just before touchdown nearly blew us clear off the runway!

I use a program called "SnapShot" by StageSoft. You choose the directory in which the screens should be saved, and in which format (BMP, JPG etc). I personally chose PNG but it's up to yourself. All you do is hit the Print Screen button, which is followed almost immediately by a small chime, to signal the screenie has been successfully captured and saved.
I then sometimes colour correct then in Photoshop and upload to Photobucket. Then I post them here

Huzzah!

Next stop is Sendai, struggling to find decent scenery for this but i cannot exclude this from my trip given the tragic links between Sendai and Christchurch.

Arrived in Sendai. Not much in the way of screenies on the ground there as I didn't manage to find a good scenery add-on. But given events in NE Japan just a month after the CHC quake there was no way I was going to miss this destination.

Now in the 'Big City' Tokyo, decided to use Haneda instead of Narita coz the scenery was freeware. (will do the same at Osaka by going into Itami)
Quoting aerdingus (Reply 142): Great pics from Japan, & a nice dedication also.
I think there will always be a bond there given the fact there were still USAR teams from Japan in CHC when the quake and tsunami hit NE Honshu. Not only that but there were many Japanese victims in the CHC quake as the biggest building to collapse in the city housed in part of it an English language school where about 20 Japanese students all aged between 18 and 23 were killed. I looked after one young guy who lost a leg in the quake who had arrived in NZ only 2 days previously, he lost all 11 of his travelling companions.
Haneda was a wee bit disappointing, it looked an interesting enough airport but the ground textures were terrible with the ramp and taxiways just greyish blurs.

Yeah I remember that was one of the first things I saw on the news
Great pics, I love me a good approach photo, like the one over the water.

I have tried to oblige on final at ITM, misty weather again at both HND and ITM. Might do another bit of route 'tweaking' to include a stop somewhere on Kyushu perhaps Fukuoka or Nagasaki depending on the scenery I can find. As for Taipei I have managed to find some seriously juicy looking scenery downloads for the whole of Taiwan. This has it's pros and cons. The pros are it will see me hand-flying VFR from Taipei to another extra stop in Kaohsiung. The cons are that is a very large and complex scenery to install so it will probably take me at least a week to do it, I hope it's worth it!
Anyway back to the pix of Koru Tiki's last touchdown on Honshu...

I know which one you mean, there are like 8 parts and each one is a HUGHE file... I might stick to the Samsoft Taipei Scenery I have.
I´ll be popping over to KIX today, might see you flying around

I'm stopped flying for the day but the Kirins are on me my friend!

It's up to 12 parts now with about 5 or 6 patches in all for various parts. I'm dreading the thought of the installation, but that's what happens to scenery junkies like me.

Got the scenery installed so it's off to Taiwan shortly, but not via Kyushu as planned as I couldn't find any decent scenery for Fukuoka or Nagasaki so it's via Okinawa instead. The airport scenery isn't great but there is some nice photoreal scenery for the surrounding area.

After a few delays caused by Christmas and the slight matter of (another) mag6+ quake, finally got the ITM-OKA sector flown.
Well the weather put paid to any nice scenery shots on this leg! Heavy snow on departure and sleet (and wicked turbulence) on arrival put paid to that, though it did make for some cool shots of Koru Tiki on descent. Only decent wx was during cruise after crossing Kyushu.
