Hello all,
It comes as a bit of a surprise to me that this issue is barely being discussed. But a few have noticed that the entire cardatabase.net website is gone and has been gone for about a month now. Along with it, Modified Airliner Photos has also disappeared, as it was hosted on the same site.
I remember when MAP was first created. It was borne out of a thread on airliners.net, with many of our users throwing in their two cents on the issue or volunteering their time and effort to get a new website, dedicated to livery modifications, fantasy schemes, or aircraft humour, off the ground. That was a few years ago and MAP was, as far as I could tell, outrageously successful. I loved the site and know many others here did too. New uploads gained popularity fast, and the site had a dedicated section right on the front page for the most popular photos of the day/week/month just like airliners.net.
Yet a month later, I'm wondering...where's the outpouring of support for a new site like this? Where are the people who worked hard to maintain MAP, is anyone discussing putting the site on a new server? anything?
It seems strange to me that a site built upon the effort of airliners.net members, with a loyal following, would just disappear, and few voices would speak up to say anything about it, or do anything about it.
If MAP has ceased to be for good, then a new one should be created. It served a niche that many enjoyed, and I want to see it return.
Is anyone else with me?
By the way, I am aware that two threads were started regarding MAP, but they were started a month ago just prior to the site's permanent disappearance, and moreover, had very few replies, hence my curiousity as to where all the support has gone, and why no one seems to (publicly) be doing anything about it?

I was wondering where the website went too, I used to visit it all the time. I wonder if it can be restarted or if someone can re create Modified Airliner Photos again.

Quoting moose135 (Reply 4): They are back up - a message on their forum this morning told of various ISP and hardware problems that took them down, but have now been resolved.
They must still be having issues cos I can't get the site to load.

It was an interesting site. I wasn't too fond of the pics with things like a bazillion engines & stuff, but if you wanted to see what an IL-96 would look like in DL colours or something it was a lot of fun.

Lighten up man, it's supposed to be a fun site. Yea, some pics are very "amateurish" looking, but some were very good. And I for one get a kick out of the 300 ft long MD-80 series pics.
Just when I think you've said the stupidest thing ever, you keep talkin'!

Agree 100%. I liked to see what some of the airplanes UA never had would look like in UA paint. MD-80s, A340s, A380s etc...

My favorite UA livery was the white with the red/orange/blue stripe with the HUGE tulip on the tail. I hated the battleship grey...the newer livery was pretty nice. The latest UA/CO is a very clean look, but not necessarily attractive (IMHO). I would be beside myself with joy to see UA get the 747-8i in the old 80's paint.

While it's a wonderful website, the thing that really kills the fun for me are the absolutely obnoxious advertisments. I can't stand the stupid audio ads which interrupt whatever it is I'm listening to, and I have to mute my speakers before I go on there. I enjoy looking at those designs that people put up, but not enough to stand those annoying ads. As such I only very rarely visit, sad to say.

The answer:
Hi all,
Sorry for not having the site online for some days. There was a scheduled powerdown in the area due to new construction sites nearby. It was planned for 3 hours. Unfortunately there have been powerdowns about every 4-6th hour, and sometimes even a phase missing.
The first times we started and recovered the site again to normal operation, but to spare the servers some strain on the hard crashes as the UPS:es are running out of battery and doesn't have time to recharge properly, I decided to keep the site down until it was all stable again.
No powerdowns since yesterday, so the site is now back online "for real". =)
