Overclocking My PC?

As I get ready to have 5 weeks off and soon purchase the PMDG NGX a question came to mind. I know the NGX will take a lot of FPS and memory. I have a fairly new system but I also enjoy running a good amount of AI and flying into larger denser airports. In some of my payware planes at these airport my FPS can drop to the high teens or once in a while even lower. My question is, is my computer good to try an over clock and what are the dangers of doing it?
I have no idea how to do it but I have heard it is not too difficult. Anyone know of any good manuals or "how to's" online?

Here is my system:
i7-930 (4x 2.8Ghz)
I have a Asetek 550LC Liquid CPU cooling system w/120mm Radiator
6GB of DDR3
ATI 5870HD
Motherboard: Asus P6T SE
800 Watt power supply.

Any other tips on getting FPS up? Programs of any sort?

I dont think you will need to overclock for NGX.
That said, you probably could overclock your rig. I hear Intel CPUs are good for that, good cooling provided.

With that kind of hardware you should be able to run the NGX rather nicely without needing to overclock. In my experience, try not to overclock when not really necessary. As you said, go ahead and try a couple of flights in different sceneries to get an idea what kind of performance you get.

Overclocking is not what people think it is...
Could you... yes sure, if your motherboard supports it it might be as easy as going into the System Setup and turning it on. If not it can get complicated and I'd recommend reading and understanding what you are doing before even thinking about it. Liquid cooling is good, but does it include the bridge controllers and ideally have RAM cooling? The Bridge controllers take a major heat increase with more overclocking setups and will quickly start causing stability issues. Modern PCs no longer get much of a performance boost with overclocking without suffering from pretty obvious stability issues.

Most slow downs are graphics related or HD lag time related anyways, neither of which you will help with knocking a few more mhz through your CPU or bridge controllers.

Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
