Yet another bit of my childhood from long, long ago and far, far way has disappeared. Those of you who have been to Juhu Gardens in Mumbai will know - for nearly 5 decades, there was a concrete reproduction of an Air India Boeing 707 - big enough one could climb inside and take a seat either in the "cockpit" or "cabin." It was a simple affair, but it still thrilled this young expat living in India in the mid- and late 1960s - you might say I was an A.nutter even before this site (and personal computers) existed. The structure gained notoriety in March 2009, when a young boy was fatally injured when one of the Rolls-Royce Conways fell on top of him. I just located an article from the The Times of India> from January 2011, that this erstwhile landmark is no more, that it had been dismantled"
My heart goes to the boy who was killed and his family. I admit, I am surprised that the structure lasted as long as it did, but am sorry to hear it is gone. Strange to say, according to one blogger, the model represents VT-DMN, Kanchenjunga, an aircraft that was later to crash near Mont Blanc, Switzerland. Thanks to the Internet, I have been able to locate two postcards of this aircraft attraction:

There's also a rather crude model of an SV 747 in a small town/village off the outskirts of Riyadh, I drove past it a few times when I lived as an expat out there... I did a bit of a search but can't come up with any pictures of it! I wish I'd taken one, but didn't want to risk it in a country where Photography is illegal in public places...
