I would have to assume that Flight will run better than FSX did, out of the box. The simple fix is to build it with true, multi-core support. The knock against FSX was that it was developed at a time when it appeared as though faster clock speeds were the future for processors, not multi-core. With today's processors 4, 6 and 8 cores is becoming common - spreading the workload over all of those cores, should result in a smooth sim experience. The other big hope for me, is that Flight is built to take full advantage of Windows 7 and a 64 bit environment....

Quoting wilco737 (Reply 1): Looks good. but I guess many PC's out there cannot handle it right away... Hope it runs better than FSX back then.
The minimum specs (http://www.microsoft.com/games/flight/#news-performance_hardware) aren't too bad actually, though you do have to have a pretty new machine to run it on the highest settings.

To be honest though, MS has a history of lowballing the hardware requirements quite extremely.

Yeah. I bought one 2 months ago, I hope it is good enough. I signed up for the beta version testing. Let's see what happens.

Be sure to let us know how your PC handles it. I signed up for it. I have a late-2008 MacBook Pro which is lacking in the processor department (2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo), but I've got 8 Gb of RAM, 512 Mb of VRAM, and a 7,200 RPM hard drive, so I'm interested to see how it'll handle it booting up in Windows 7.

They seem to be very strict with that. No leaking whatsoever. Have you read the terms & conditions.

Doesn't sound too bad... I have a i7 2600 with 8GB RAM and a good graphic card wit Win 7... So we'll see if I get chosen and how it runs.

Also applied  let us see if that is a full flight simulator, a pilot activity simulator like XPlane 10 or a flight environment simulator like FSX or just a game...

There are parts of X-Plane 10 which are better than FSX, and to me it looks that are those where X-Plane 9 already was strong. Globally speaking, this are all those things that have to do with handling of aircraft, that I why I call it a pilot activity simulator.
There are parts in X-Plane10 that are worse than FSX, some of them worse than FS2002, and interesting that are those areas where X-Plane 9 already was short. The current implementation of the AI traffic ( limited to 20 aircraft behaving erratic on the airports ) and airports ( a really buggy translation of Jeppesen data) falls into this category. So if your interest is for anything outside the cockpit, X-Plane 10 isn't for you. That is why I call FSX a flight environment simulation.
If X-Plane had kept their strong points and worked mainly on the weak ones, they could have reached a real flight simulator - but the developers are not sensitive to advice they got on their forums, so they strengthend their position in their own niche.

So let us wait what comes next.
My favorite Flight Sim currently is LM's Prepar3D - there is a small group actively to continue it, it has many known FSX bugs fixed and runs very smooth. 10$ per month for the subscription is a high price, though, so I do not know yet if I will make that permanent.

I would definitively go to LM's Prepar3D if i had $499 to spend on a Flight Sim - Maybe after christmas!

The one time pay indeed is hard, but the 10$ per month are easier. And having both of them on disk, for my taste I get more value per $ from LM than from LR...
We are used to the ultra low prices of MSFS because
a) MSFS made an low profile consumer usage of otherwise expensive professional data
b) MSFS sold a million times
c) MSFS was subsidized a lot by MS due to personal intervention of Bill Gates personnally

In my the FS enginge is way outdated, I guess the original built of the engine is over 10-15 years old now. Today there are much more graphic engines that produce stunning effects and look much more realistic while consuming much less resources compared to the FS Enginge. Microsoft would do good in changing the FS Engine, however it's the vast amount of aftermarket and third party software and add-ons implemented in and designed for the current engine that make it simply impossible for Microsoft to alter the engine or switch to a new one .. sad as it is!

They can do so, provided their product does not pretend to be a flight simulator. If you bring out a tiny scenery and one airplane only you can make this very smooth ans sophisticated, sell a second aircraft over a built in market place, and sell a new product, each covering a different small area ins stunning detail, every 6 months, provided the aircraft you purchased does not fly in the second and third and has to be purchased again....
