FSX Has Black Smudge Screen And Now Won't Load

Hey! I recent purchased Xtreme FSX and it went well until I decided to change some of the settings. When I did that, I got the first screen shot with the plane that looks "smudged" when selecting the aircraft. When I go to select the plane and fly, I see a black screen. I can see the aircraft when in spot plane view, but that is it (the background is all black). I updated my driver, and it caused an issue with my computer as a whole so I uninstalled it. Now when I try to fly, I get "FSX is not compatible with the graphics" error or something similar although it worked fine for years and years on this graphics card.

I know this maybe a stupid question, but as you said yourself - you weren't the biggest "nerd" - But did you make sure that it was the right driver you installed for your grapix card? - seen it happend to people before (that they updated there card with the "wrong" driver!

Had this happend to me once - when I installed Real Environment Extreme (aka. REX) - i Just restarted FSX - then it was gone - so I don't know why that happend!

-Depending on how many add-ons you have installed, you could try to reinstall FSX.

I'm gonna go to bed - if the thing isn't solved by tomorrow at 2pm (ZULU/GMT) (can't log onto airliners.net before that) - please PM me and i will try to figure something out - No promises though.

You said you installed another driver and than uninstalled it. So you have no driver at all currently, resp only the genereric windows to support something one, so it cannot work.

I recommend that you install the latest drivers for everything on your computer and ensure the OS to work, an update of Direct X might be a good idea to have this working again, and only then it makes sense to think about FSX.

yes, I agree this is not a FSX issue but an issue of my computer instead. I tried to install the latest drivers and I even have a program that knows when I have driver issues (driver scanner I think its called-- I am at work now and don't have the info in front of me). So, honestly perhaps I don't even know how to install it correctly. Should I go online or did my pc come with a backup cd of this (told ya I'm not the best at computers lol)?

So I was able to get FSX working again, when I click "preview Direct X 10" it goes all back with the smudging, but when its unclicked the aircraft is all white, but its just the aircraft, not the scenery.

Yes, just the planes, scenery seems fine. When "picking" the planes, they are fine but when they are turning around before you hit "fly" they are gray. I haven't checked my AI yet, probablay should've checked that as well.

That happends to me sometimes to - I just ignore that!

Addon planes not written using FSX SP2 SDK do not display properly under FSX SP2. With DX10 preview checked, they are all gray(white/black I have seen all of this.

AND:
The same also happens with FSX SDK2 built planes if there is another object in the scene that has a missing texture, so if you continue to see this it can bit a simple missing texture. To find it or rule it out, check

Just wanted to flag up that i too have problems with FSX. Both times I loaded it it managed to crash the computer, as in send the memory haywire and affected the performance of the computer. Both times the computer had to reset by the company.

FSX now in bin!

and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

I never heared about that one. I had a few FSX crashes over the years, but never anything that affected the OS. once or twice I had to reboot W7 to be able to start FSX again since large parts of DX were gone, but a damage that requires a company to reset it sounds very strange.
Maybe the disks were over full, remember you never should have the primary disk more than 75% filled and any other disk more than 90% full.

I am still having this problem. Everything was fine until I "messed around" with Xtreme FSX booster or whatever its called. I'll try and play around with it some more this weekend. Would posting my fsx.cfg be helpful?

I never use any enhancer or booster - they cannot make FSX better without a high price to pay, and for me the few users who use them make a large fraction of support work. Use FSX with the default settings, and if you change them make a protocol of your changes and only change what you really understand - and you will have a lot of happy flying instead of bugs and complaint, crashes and installations.
