Quoting wilco737 (Reply 2): It is lufthansa, but you can fly flight from many other airlines within the FTG group. Take a look.
I used to fly with SQ vitrual through FTG and they were great at first but then they changed their PIREP system to a form of ACARS that for some reason just would not work for me.

I had these issues as well with the ACARS, but their forum is great and they helped me out there and now it runs nice and smooth and is a great tool to file those PIREPs and add up hours.
I simply like the variety, you are not connected to only one airline. You can fly many many flights of many airlines, cargo, classic, passenger, historic etc etc.

Oh don't get me wrong I would say FTG, aside from the ACARS issue, is great for the reasons you mention and I enjoyed flying with them for a long time. But I could not resolve that issue unfortunately,

After working my way through a few VAs, only to move on when I got tired of that airline's routes, I ended up finding http://www.air-source.us and have been there almost 9 years now. The thing I like is the variety. We have the Scheduled division which covers almost every current airline you can think of (and many that are not current via the "Classic" section), the Bid division which is made up of specialty flights (current examples are Airbus/Boeing delivery flights, the 787 Dreamtour, Cargo flights ranging from a DC-6 up to heavy metal, and a Thomson B757 world tour based on a charter itinerary). We also have a GA division where you can use the money you earn on bid/scheduled flights to rent a GA aircraft and go have some fun.
Hope this helps, and let me know if you need any more info on us.
It's an online management simulation where you can name and run your own airline, compete against other players and their airlines. You do have to buy credits but they're not that expensive.
I've flown with them since 2005. The VA, with it's partner Pacific Airways, is one of the biggest in the VA world. 7 main hubs in the US, Latin America and Australia, lots of awesome routes and charters, a good range of fleet types, no ACARS, great forum community, good promotion system and they are very supportive of new VATSIM users.
It's the only VA I've been loyal to. I've periodically tried others based on real airlines, but I always find myself back at AFA. There are others on this site who I know would agree with me!

I'm a member of two VA's, Slipstream Airways and Alaska Adventures. The first I've been with for 5 years have 1200 hours, they're pretty good and extremely welcoming but its hard to get the most out of it unless you participate in group flights and in the forums etc, they have 3 hubs in the US, with plenty of routes without being ridiculously unrealistic.
The second was just to scratch an itch for some bush flying, the guy runs a fantastic website, the best VA website I've seen although there are a few little bugs. I'd suggest joining for anyone who enjoys smashing virtual bugs but wants some aims, with no restrictions on planes at all with hubs throughout Alaska, although more routes wouldn't hurt. Helps it you have Ultimate Terrain Alaska, I'm looking forward to when OrbX brings out Alaska.

I'm over at Delta VA (deltava.org). The checkrides to move up to a new type aren't easy, but they are at least do-able and make you learn the type. The 727 checkride is lots of fun! Great site, great ACARS setup, and no real other restrictions. Choose your flight and go with whatever type you want, so long as it can legally do it and you have the rating.
