REX for FSX is currently on sal 50% off so it is only $20. But before buying it I just wanted to see if anyone had an opinion on it. Is it worth the money? My only real concern would be if it would put any hit to my FPS. So for those who have it how has it worked for you guys?
Thanks for the info

In a nutshell, yes. I don't know what kind of machine you have, but regardless, it will impact your FPS. I have a pretty high end machine and had a noticeable difference. That being said, you can play with the settings and find a happy medium. The result is a fantastic sky, although there is the argument that REX isn't the best weather generator (I personally don't care) and that ActiveSky is better in that respect. Can't help you there. If your machine can handle it, REX for $20 sounds pretty good.

I have been fairly happy with my FPS not sure if I want to take a noticeable hit. 1-2 maybe but nothing more. I have a decent rig with an i7930 Nd 5870 maybe it's worth $20 to try it out. Over on the PMDG forum there is a discussion about it and many say it's a must have. My only doubt is the FPS hit.
Thanks

Well, for $20 just get it! That price is a real Highway robbery and will not come around any time soon!
FPS, yes there will be a slight hit.
REX vs Active Sky? I have both of them and I would go with Active Sky which is overall a better product!
REX has some nice cloud textures, but like THEBATMAN said, it is true, as a weather engine it sucks!

is the processor overclocked? i have the 5870 with a i7 920 overclocked to 4.0ghz, and to be honest i noticed only a drop on average of about 4-5fps, even so i was already getting above 30fps in places like seattle.

The problem i found with it was that it takes a LONG time to install. In my case it was about 24 hours! Wasn't an isolated case either as on their support forums it seemed there were plenty of other people complaining about download/install times taking hours.
Once i did manage to get it installed though, it did look very good. As with everything though there is a tradeoff between looking good and performance.

I personally have seen no FPS hit, and in some areas, has helped in FPS.

Does anybody using REX as a graphics texture generator and Active Sky Evo as a weather engine for FS9? I have heard that its possible as REX really sucks as a weather generator but has some stunning cloud textures and graphics.
