FSX - Deleting Airport Of Same Icao Code

I was delighted when I saw that someone made a scenery for Jieyang Chaoshan Airport (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jieyang_Chaoshan_Airport) which is my new hometown airport for Shantou. However, the old Shantou Waisha Airport happens to share the same IATA/ICAO code (SWA/ZGOW) and it has been transferred to the new airport, like the case for HKIA and Kai Tak. In flight simulator, I tried flying HKG-SWA with my 737 NGX but the FMC directed me to the old airport instead. The old airport in FSX is just depicted by a circle and the ICAO code and there is no "real" airport located in the simulator. It is not able to be chosen in the flying menu to speak of. Any idea of how to completely remove the old airport from the simulator and make only the new airport exist? Since SWA is my hometown airport I'd wish to fly there as often as possible.

There are actually two things affecting you here -

a) the FSX scenery database (that the issue was adressed by the author of the new airport in some way I presume)

b) the NGX database, that is supplied by Navigraph. I do not know which cycle of updates NGX comes with, or if you bought any newer, but since the new aircraft only opened two weeks ago, that is, on the begginning of the current cycle, I suspect that you just dont have the newest data bought/downloaded (yet).

For the NGX to work with the new airport (incl. DEP ARR procedures in FMC and everything else) you will need to buy and download a new AIRAC cycle at navigraph.com.

A cycle is worth about 2€, although you can only buy a credit pack for 10/20/30€. You can use the rest for newer cycles later (credits valid up to 270 days, that will do for 10 cycles with good timing), or to get charts. However I find that most serious simmers just get the annual cycle for 20€ every year and keep up-to-date.
Another way is to update your navdata manually but that is not recommended for less experienced users.

Hello, thanks for the reply! Unfortunately I have bought the AIRAC cycle upon seeing your post and it still did not work.

I actually found the navdata file and ZGOW is actually not present at all. Any idea on how to edit? I do not really understand the coordinates in there as it seems pretty different from what I see in FSX.

That would be great! Thanks a ton for that! However, would there be any problems seeing that the default ZGOW in FSX is currently not in their database and they add a "new" ZGOW with a different location? Am afraid there might be double entry.

You need to understand there is a distinct difference between FSX database and Navigraph based database(s) that various add-ons use. Navigraph claims its data come from real world providers and should be more or less accurate to real world.
Although they might just not have gotten the new ZGOW data, or they might have elected to keep the old one in for a while (maybe until an add-on scenery shows up?)

Either way, I am speculating, Navigraph should have the final word on this, and I hear they do give relatively decent support.

This is a tricky situation.

If you install an addon airport, this will completely override the old default one IF the complete header is identical, including coordinates and altitude. If there are differences in the header, you will have too logical airports. The visual scenery of ZGOW will display only at the new location, but ATC will act on both. Happens a lot with addon airports/AFCADS from FS9 when used in FSX if the Jeppesen data have moved the airport center due to airport extensions.

Therefore, the designers of the new airport should have taken the complete header from FSX, and not moved the airports center coordinates nor the altitude - which might be impossible since the new flat airport then would be at the altitude of the old one, unlikely to be correct.

So this looks like one of the rare cases where a decompilation/removal/compilation of the stock APxxxxxx.bgl file is necessary.
