Hey,
Just noticed POSKY is shutting down their website at the end of August. Does anybody know where the files will go after that or will they just disappear into cyberspace?

HI!
I'm not really very into their stuff but I think all of their planes I use I downloaded from flightsim/avsim. Do they have lots of stuff only available on their website? Here's hoping they will upload what they have to the major flightsim sites before they dissappear.
Anyway I have had many hours of happiness free thanks to them. I will be sad to see them go but thank them for all they have done for free for us simmers.

I don't know about stuff being available exclusively to them - They have a lot of FDE updates and paints etc so at least they're in one place at POSKY. They'd be a bugger to search for because of how they name them!
I went to the liberty of downloading every single file (all 8.5GB of it) over the past few days I just have nowhere to host it if anybody wants a file. I tried Dropbox but they only offer 2GB, but if you get people to sign up then each person you get to sign up gets you an extra 500MB free, up to 16GB.
I don't know that many people without dropbox though, and you can't just sign up yourself multiple times - I've tried

Wow that's a serious amount of downloading, more than a decent sized photoscenery. Very kind of you to try and host them somewhere. I don't know if there's anywhere where you can upload all the files in one go and which hosts for free and doesn't delete after a certain time. Or maybe you could email them if they still answer and ask if you could upload to flightsim or avsim or something. That would probably be the best way for their stuff to survive but I can only imagine how much time it would take to upload that amount of stuff to one of the flightsim sites with the descriptions and everything. Probably way more time than one guy would ever be willing to put in!

I wanted them for myself too I know FS9 is getting on for 9 years old but I still play it as my netbook can't do any better gaming wise. I'm going to get a far better laptop in the next 12 months or so for university so hopefully then I'll be able to use them more than what I can now.
If you know anybody who wants dropbox and hasn't got around to signing up, telling them to use this link: http://db.tt/k0t70zrf
:D They need to install it as well though. I'm up to 3.6GB at the moment... 5GB to go!

I have Dropbox. If you want me to add your network to add space, send me the info and I'll link my computer to it.

Hi!
Quoting alberchico (Reply 6): Does anyone know why they are shutting down ?
I believe they are shutting down because their members have moved onto other things. Some people make such great stuff they move onto payware. Others just move on to other interests. I have seen many people both in the forums and authors come and go over the years I've been in flightsim. What amazes me is that there is so much good free stuff which really keeps the hobby alive. It's the only hobby in the World I've found which is so uncommercial in terms of getting stuff.
Quoting alberchico (Reply 6): Can't they upload their files to avsim ???
I don't use that much Project Opensky stuff but everything I've downloaded I got from Avsim/flightsim. However uploading 8.5GB of stuff to Avsim where each individual aircraft requires a readme and screenshot and stuff would take probably more time than they're willing to put in. Even uploading a single scenery or repaint can take a while because of all the rules.

Done. Sorry for the delay, but you should have an increase in space now. I'm assuming you did the other things that can give you a bonus? Link to Twitter/Facebook and whatnot.

Skydrive used to offer 25gb for free. I don't know if it is still possible though.
