I can't say I'm disappointed. Their early pitch was that Flight would cater for serious MSFS users and be more attractive to casual game players. A lot of us expressed our scepticism. We were right.
From the Verge article:
"but we feel it will help us better align with our long-term goals and development plans"
In other words, we misjudged it badly but we're not going to admit it. We thought we'd created a money-making machine and now we'll get nothing. I can't help thinking FS11 would have been a better bet.
On the plus side, 3rd party developers can focus fully on FSX now.

So what now ? A successor to FSX ? Or is this truly the end of the road for Microsoft Flight Simulator ?

Hi!
For me Flight wasn't that bad. Any flightsim is fun for me, even if having limited scenery and stuff. I have Fs98, Flight Unlimited 2 and 3, Fs2004, FsX, Flight and an old version of XPlane (and Fly! too). I have enjoyed them all. What they should do is offer Flight for free now. It will get a lot of people interested in flightsims and maybe they will feel like buying FsX to try worldwide flying and Orbx and stuff after they have explored everywhere in Flight. Even if they don't it would be a nice gesture by Microsoft to offer a free flightsim.

Not surprised, considering how big a let down they have given us.
Granted, MF is a beautifully made game with much better graphics and a lot more fun packed into it. But they just ignored the fact that a lot of the FSX users are into MSFS simply because it is a decent SIMULATOR, and took the sim part out almost completely, which, for me, seems unacceptable.
X-Plane anyone? Apparently PMDG is looking into developing addons for XP.....

Without SDK and without a legal way to add addons, Flight! was dead before it took off. Then it took far too long to come out with Alaska. They should have had at least all the US and Caribbean done at release, with 50 packages to choose fom, pay three take five...
Grafics and performance were fine, but not really so much better than FSX - on a small island every sim can have a good performance, and I saw nothing in the scenery I cannot build for FSX.
