Hey all-
I am finally in a position to where I am going to buy a new desktop and am intrigued by the all-in-one XPS One 27". I have not enjoyed flight simulator in quite some time and do not know much as far as requirements and how FS will run. I have copy and pasted below the system specifications and hope anyone can tell me whether or not I will be able to play FSim at full frames with add-ons and no interruptions. Also will it be compatable with Windows 8? I may wait to order until Windows 8 is released. Thanks
Travis

A Geforce 640M is a notebook GPU with 625 MHz and 384 Shaders. Compare that to a mid range Geforce 670 which I know to be just sufficient for FSX, that runs at 980MHz with 1344 Shaders, and the Top model 690 with 1019 Mhz and 3072 Shaders.
So this really is an extremely poor card and will be the bottleneck - you waste a lot of power that you cannot use at all. This GPU might fit to an I3 CPU, but to serve an I7-3770 you need a Geforce 670 or a ATI 6770 minimum.
So you can run FS9 on it nicely ( but the I3 would do it too) but forget FSX, P3D or X-Plane, you miss at least a factor of 3 in GPU power.

Thought I'd chime in… in terms of the SSD (which I'd highly recommend, it makes all the difference), I'd personally go with the Crucial m4. Not only are they relatively inexpensive (for an SSD, of course), but I can swear by their reliability and performance… been using six for almost a year! My two cents.

AMD Radeonâ„¢ HD 7870 2GB GDDR5
Yes, the AMD 7870 is at the same level as the Geforce 680, that fits well to any I7 processor. SSD I have P3D installed on an SSD thanks to the 1.4 release, FSX will go there once I have time for a new install.
