Hi everyone,

I look at world-of-ai.com around monthly to look for updates on their packages as I'm a loyal user of their packages and was a bit shocked yesterday when I fired up the browser, went on their website and saw a message that the website will stop 30th of April.

Announcement on front page: http://world-of-ai.com/

My question is, will there be any other freeware AI product that will fill in the gap that will undoubtly come when WOAI 'retires'? I use WOAI but I doubt it will be fun in a few years having seriously outdated traffic flying in your skies. Is there currently any other AI site which offers good freeware traffic addons? I've tried making my own plans but a) that's time consuming and b) I often have problems with my custom packages. Do you think that anyone will step in and fill the gap with a new traffic site?

I think it's sad that 2 of the former FS freeware 'giants', WOAI and POSKY have both left the internet in less than a year. Use both products alot.

Regards,
Sveinn

What a shame! I loved their packages and, much like you, often went on there for updates and new airlines.

For the most part, WOAI didn't make any of the models, textures, flightplans and AFCAD files that they released. Under permission from developers who did make those (such as Aardvark, The Fruit Stand, Alpha India Group and so on) they compiled them into easy to install format. If you know how to manually install flight plans, models, textures and AFCAD files, those are still being released.

While they are still being released, doing the updating yourself is rather time consuming.... Which is why WOAI was very useful to us flightsimmers. Even though I dont play flightsim as much anymore, it will be sad to see them close down...

I know that you can do it manually but as 817Dreamliner said, it can be very time consuming. What I liked the most about WOAI was that you could just install the package, run it through the installer and it appeared in your sim! Also, I'm not that good in computer stuff and such, so many times when I try to add flight plans manually to my FSX it a) doesn't appear or b) FSX crashes when I go to the hub airport of the airline I installed and try to see their planes. So, WoAI was a great easy way to install up-to-date traffic without having to spend many hours on it. I've tried making flight plans myself but always when I do big airlines they don't appear even though test flight plans on small fictional airlines I make work perfectly...

Btw: I've seen your AI traffic in the screenshot thread and it's amazing. Wish I knew how to make traffic like that...

regards,
Sveinn

All good things i suppose ...... certainly appreciate the effort they've put into it for the love of it. They have provided a quick & easy base for many to get their traffic up & running. I've pretty much used it as a starting point myself & over time have changed or adjusted a lot of things.

Best to download while you can, it won't get much easier. You can certainly do a lot of things yourself though. For me FS isn't as much the flying as it is the tinkering with all kinds of stuff in it.

So sad to hear this won't continue. By the way, has anyone tried IceAITraffic?

Not really. Once you get the hang of it, it goes rather quick. I just installed 4 new carriers today and took no time at all.

Thanks, it is all plans that are installed by AIFP, nothing extra.

That is a dirty word among the modelers, repainters and flightplanners, as they took their stuff and rebranded it under their name without giving credit or asking permission. While it might be nice, it is looked down upon.

Good to know, thanks. I'll steer clear; I have no respect for those who take the work of others without permission.

Only 4? well try installing 4 large carriers with a large fleet, including various aircraft plus special liveries and see how long that takes you...

KLM was one of those carriers and with AIFP, it took only a few minutes to install the carrier. AIFP is really a time saver, you load in the flightplan's ZIP file (Alpha India Group is releasing their plans in AIFP format) and then youjust point and click to assign the aircraft installed on your computer to the aircraft in the plans. Then when done, you compile and if there are older KLM plans (which I had), it will ask if you want to delete them so that there are not duplicate flights.

Actually doing everything manually doesn't take that long either. Flightplans can be downloaded from the likes of av.sim or flightsim.com just like the AI aircraft. You might have to match the aircraft with the flightplan but all that takes is taking the title from the aircraft cfg file. Now if you were doing everything from scratch ..... you'd have a point. Anyway once you're into it there's nothing difficult or time consuming about it

Well, I downloaded AIFP and after searching quite a few google searches and trying time and time again installing Icelandair manually it finally worked on Wednesday and now I'm adding AI airlines manually like crazy. The first few airlines took alot of time as I had to find the base models for the aircraft before downloading the repaints and flight plans, but now I have most of the more common aircraft already so each airline takes alot less time. Thanks for telling me about AIFP! Works really easily once you get to learn it.

Kind regards,
Sveinn
