Hey a.netters,
I recently started collecting DVD's from Just Planes videos and I have a steady-growing collection. I currently have 10 DVD's (9 'flight in the cockpit' DVD's and 1 airport DVD) and I have placed 3 more on order. My favourites are the Austrian 777, Oman Air and Kingfisher Airlines.
How about you?? How many do you have in your collection and which are your favourite titles??

Hi Aditya,
I have a number of the Just Planes DVD's now. The new releases on Blu Ray are by far the best in terms of image and sound quality shot in HD. If you haven't got the Air Canada B777-200LR Polar Flight then try and get this one, it is IMO the best in terms of the insights provided about flying long haul especially across the North Pole and the views out the window's are spectacular and completely justified.
Having said that the early Just Plane DVD in the series, I found a bit frustrating in that the camera was more often than not was pointed out the window, admiring the views, alot of which I could get as a passenger and not focused on inside of the flightdeck, showing start up procedures and the like. Given that the camera operator has access to a flightdeck in the first place, it's a shame that the coverage doesn't favour the flightdeck more. I found this with the recent purchase of the Arik Airlines A340-500 that didn't have the same type of coverage that was found on the Air Canada B777-200LR Polar Flight.
Still, overall being able to see different airlines from around the world and see how they operate the different aircraft in their fleet is a big draw for me to buy them in the first place and I certainly can't wait to buy the B787 Dreamliner Blu Ray featuring Ethiopian Airlines, when it is finally released.
It's good to see you have caught the Just Planes bug like me and hope you enjoy them all.

I have all the Air Canada series now including my favorite: the St. John’s, Newfoundland to London Heathrow Transatlantic A319. Also a few others: JetsGo, Canadian North, ZIP and WestJet. Excellant quality especially the Blu-ray ones.

My complaint is that they are currently focusing way too much on Air Canada. Are they planning to dedicate a program to every aircraft they have in their fleet ? Not to mention the fact that they were probably the last production company in the US filming programs in the obsolete 4:3 full screen ratio. You would think that within the confines of a cockpit shooting in widescreen would make more sense. Having said that I love this series. My favorites are the ones featuring airlines flying obscure aircraft like Buffalo airways with the C-46 or the one featuring the Ilyushin IL-76. My all time top 3 would have to be the Cubana il-62, the Oasis 747-400, and the Air Atlanta 747 classic.

I just ordered the Air Canada Polar OPS Blu Ray this past week...I can't wait to get it. The only other Just Planes video I have is a United 777 DVD from over ten years ago. I was watching it the other night and it was so old...you could see United 727's taxiing at ORD and you saw very few RJ's at ORD in the video. How times have changed.

The reason for this can be found on their youtube page. If you read some of the comments, they have to get cooperation from the airlines of course to produce these videos, and Air Canada has been one of the most cooperative. Throw in the fact you are aiming for an english speaking audience and this makes sense. They would love to get a US airline on board, but of course with the lawyers in this country, the US Airlines have not been willing to help out save for the aforementioned UA video.
I actually like that Air Canada has done a lot of these videos and I plan to order more, including the ETOPS A319 video and the 777-300 YYZ-NRT video.

I will definitely buy the AC Polar ops program (as I'm a B777 fan) and other Blu-ray programs, but first I need to buy a blu-ray player....JP often recommend the blu-ray version on their fb and youtube pages, so I dont want to buy the DVD now and then the Blu-ray version when i have the player.

I agree with apodino's response...I recently bought the AC 777LR program (the one with flights from YVR-SYD and back)..they get into a lot of detail about the pre-flight planning and the procedures they follow during the flight. So from JP''s point of view, if an airline is ready to welcome cameras and explain to the viewers in great detail about the procedures and features of the aircraft....Why not??
Having said that, I do hope more airlines allow JP to film them...I mean this is good way to advertise yourself amongst the aviation community right?

I love these DVDs, both the cockpit series and the airport series. I have two complaints though. First, their UK online store (via Amazon) never has any of the special offers available at their US site and second, I really don't understand why they don't sell these programmes as digital downloads (they would have much more of my money if I was able to buy a download). Apart from these small gripes, Just Planes are undoubtedly the best of the type.

Hi sk736
Thank you for your compliments... and I'll address your 2 complaints
1) Amazon.uk
Sales through Amazon.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr and the others in Europe is not controlled by us directly but by our distributors in Europe...
but with that being said, we deal directly with Amazon.com and Amazon.ca and you can't do any specials... there is 1 price and thats it... so if you want to benefit from the weekly specials it has to be on the justplanes.com, worldairroutes.com or justplanes.net websites.
2) Downloads
For the last 2 years we were totally focused on Blu-ray, getting that product up and going and getting it to the absolute best quality we could produce... now that that is up and going extremely well (75% of our sales are now Blu-rays), we can focus on downloads... We've been negotiating with a few companies and hope to be signing with one shortly. Suggest you check our website and facebook where we will be talking about this and making a formal announcements in the weeks to come...
Hopefully that answers your questions/concerns... always happy to answer any further questions...

Thanks very much for your responses to my comments, I appreciate you taking the time to do so.
Quoting justplanes (Reply 7): so if you want to benefit from the weekly specials it has to be on the justplanes.com, worldairroutes.com or justplanes.net websites
The only problem there is that for those of us outside the US, the shipping costs are expensive. I appreciate you don't have any control over the shipping costs, I was just making the point that it would be nice, now and again, if your customers outside the US were able to access special offers through your European distributors.

That's great news and I'll certainly keep a look out for an announcement!

We wanted to make sure that everything performed as planned and that our customers were happy with the service... and judging from the 1st weekend that has def been the case.... Give it a little time and the download store will be stocked up

Thanks Justplanes. I'm impatient to give you more of my money so please stock up soon...and I hope there will be some airport titles too! I've downloaded the Varig programme and I have to say I'm very impressed with how smooth the whole process was and with the quality of the programme on my MacBook and iPad. Keep up the good work!

And off course we look forward to getting some more of your money...
We're still busy setting up a protocol for our download store but its getting there and once we are we'll start adding more titles... and certainly airports as well...
The plan is to add new titles as they will only become available on Blu-ray from now on... as well as old titles that are sold out or never made it to DVD... Any title that is available on DVD will not be added to the download store.
Thats basically the plan

Well, after a promising start, what a disappointment! So far, only two airport series downloads (both very old ones) and only one new non-DVD programme. I really can't see why it's taking so long to get more programmes up and running. Please give us some more programmes now!

sk736, you might want to give JP a little slack. He has more than just downloads to deal with. New Blue Ray about to be introduced Friday as well as having filming going on around the world. I bet by this time next year you will see a good selection.
New things like this take time.

Yes Jim, you're right, and of course I know that in time there will be plenty of stuff available to download. My gripe was really that it is a bit disappointing to offer only very old airport programmes when they could just as easily (I presume) have offered the Vancouver programme, for example, which I believe is not available on DVD. Just me being impatient!

Oh boy... Thank you 777guy for being realistic... Indeed we have 2 crews traveling and filming at most times which take up a good part of our production time... You don't realize the amount of work that is involved in each shoot... Then we have the production of our Blu-rays which is still our main item... We started download just a month ago and we already have 9 titles available and 3 with a confirmed release date... Just how many titles were you expecting in a month sk736?
FYI Old airports is what a lot of people are interested in... others will come but you need to be very patient.. and no Vancouver cannot easily be offered as it was not produced as a DVD but only Blu-ray when we released it...
Sorry the titles that are available might not be the ones you would prefer... hopefully one day they will be but to say that this is such a disappointment?

Fair enough Justplanes, I understand there's a lot to do and no offence was intended by my posts. You probably already know I'm a great fan of your products, and downloads are my preferred way of viewing them, so I guess I'm just being too impatient. Having said I was disappointed at the airports offerings, I have to admit I downloaded both as soon as they were available!
So, apologies if I seemed ungrateful; that certainly wasn't my intention. Keep up the good work

Just noticed you released another Embraer program and I couldn't resist ordering it. Really amazing to see how many videos featuring Air Canada you have in your collection by now. I almost don't dare asking – but is there any chance another one's coming up featuring the AC Boeing 767?

You are right... another program of the 767 is really overdue... it was our 1st program of AC nearly 4 years ago and a program with the current quality, multi-cam, Hi-Def, Blu-ray etc... is a must...
I think it will happen

Received and watched the AC Embraer US operations program and I have to say you have outdone yourself once again. Genuinely great crews, prime destination choices and the excellent BluRay quality make the more than four (!) hours of footage truly worth watching.
Sounds promising. While you're at it - maybe you can hook up with KLM Cityhopper once again and see if they let you film on their post-Fokker Embraer fleet? Out of curiosity, when is the next BluRay release coming up; perhaps already this Friday?

We have been talking to KLM City for a while about the Embraers... might happen... might not... will have to wait and see...
Next release Friday, May 17th and then just about every 3 weeks.. the airlines that want us to film are lined up and its going to be the busiest year ever!
At this point I believe we have some existing airlines and 10 NEW airlines joining the series this year already!
