My friend is getting his Sports Pilot License soon, and he really wants to have a captain or FO hat. He's an average built guy of 6'. I would like to buy one from AA or UA for him as a BD present.

Just google pilot hats, you may get one. I'm not sure about being able to get one from the airline itself. At my company (No prizes for guessing who I work for) no public can get uniforms as all the fittings is done internally and I would very much doubt the airline would let just anyone buy bits of a uniform with the logo and insignia on it. Would be a security breach I would imagine

If we are caught selling or giving away any part of our uniform, we'd likely be fired and handed over to the RCMP. As uniform components are replaced we are expected to return them to the supplier, which is far easier than guaranteeing their destruction.
That being the case, I would imagine it would be very hard to find one for sale, especially if it has any sort of logo like UA or AA. I understand that some are "planted" on eBay, and the purchaser investigated.
