Hi,

I have had this problem for a while now. It seems that FSX crashes randomly. I have uninstalled fsx and reinstalled it.. It doesn't seem to matter the type of aircraft or where i am.
Here is a poor video of what happens: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWYhwhrzAeI

Howdy. I watched it and couldn't figure out the issue. When you've reloaded FS, are you adding anything in to it or is it bare bones?

Peace to you!

Everything is still there. I might need to take everything out (even all my WOAI   ) and start again.. I was afraid of that.

Do these crashes happen everywhere or just in certain areas? If it is in certain areas, then you can start crossing off some ai aircraft of the list as possible causes. Possibly there is a corrupt texture file causing the crash when FSX is attempting to load it.

Howdy!. I agree with csturdiv. Wipe FS off your computer, then reload it with no additions. Fire up FS "stock" with the default supplied aircraft. Play around flying the Mooney, Lear and 737. Don't add in anything though!

Let us know how it works then before you begin adding in more goodies.

I had a add on texture of a 727-200 that loaded up fine, then crashed the application every time about 3 minutes into my departure. Drove me nuts absolutely!

Peace be with you and have a blessed, happy flying day..!!

I have some tools that I use on FS9 (I am at work now, so I forget the names) but they scan the FS9 folder and detect any problems with images (missing Alpha Channels and so on) that can lead to issues like this. Not sure if they work with FSX as I do not have any AI installed in FSX yet. When I get home, I'll look up the program names and post them here to see if they help with crashes you are having. One is called Alpha Searcher 2, but the other is escaping me, I'll find it later tonight.

That's the odd thing, its random. It doesn't matter what aircraft, where I am flying. I do tend to use the simulation acceleration so I can fly across the pond faster. It tends to happen the most right on decent or final, which sucks because I've down most of the journey. It makes me not want to even go on my flight sim anymore.

Don't give up KLM! It's just a wacky computer gremlin. We have an amazing computer application that can quickly transplace us anywhere in the world in some pretty cool aircraft. You're just being temporarily being "tested"..

Ok, the programs I am thinking of are AlphaSearcher2 and DXT3Fixer. They were mentioned on the Alpha India forums and people have said it has helped with blurry textures, slow loading of images and crashes. If you are a member of the forums, I would check them out for the links and discussion on these programs. I am also on the forums using the same forum name as I use here. http://www.alpha-india.net/forums/index.php

AlphaSearcher2 will check your FS folders (scenery and aircraft) for textures that are missing the Alpha Channels.

DXT3Fixer will check image files in DXT3 format (used by some repaints in FS9 and FSX) for missng Alpha Channels.

Before you blow up your sim, I would start here. These are usually the big source of crash to desktop issues.

Ok, I will give that a try! Thank you for your help. I'll report back. It tends to happen on approach or on final, which is obviously makes me very sad, because I might fly a transatlantic flight only for this to happen mins from completing a wonderful flight!

Once I've ran the Alpha Channels, what do I do?
Thanks!

Well you would need to use a program like DXT2BMP to create an alpha channel and save the image. Did the scan turn up any results?

Alternatively you can try this program on www.avsim.com - dxtfixerx_310125.zip

From the readme it states:

"This tool fixes the stutters in FS9/FSX caused by dxt3 and dxt5 textures without an active alpha channel.

The default state is to just scan for errors WITHOUT making any changes to any files.

When the scan is complete, a Notepad window will open displaying the results."

I use this program and it is very easy to use. Just point it to your flight sim folder and let it run. By default it will only show you the files that need the alpha channel. There is a checkmark to remove to let it modify these files to have the alpha channel.

Also it may be worth registering at the Alpha India forums if you are not already in there and read this thread:

http://www.alpha-india.net/forums/index.php?topic=12616.0;topicseen

The thread is about another program that was created by the guy behind the new FAIB Boeing models and the upcoming new A318/A319/A320 models. He states that his program "should help an AI enthusiast with tracking down those pesky repaints who show up as grey models or even crash the simulator.
Basically what the tool does is to iterate over your aircraft folder and check each model for its texture file names then it checks if the texture folder that uses that model have the necessary texture files in it.
NEW in Version 1.4 the tool now actually checks the internal structure of the BMP files and tries to detect common texture faults which may lead to shutters or even outright crashes."

There is a file called uiautomationcore.dll that solved the problem for me.

Just download it and place it in the folder where fsx.exe resides:

Yes, I've tried that UiAutomationcore.dll, but the same issues are present.
