I know many people are into Herpa models, but does anybody out there collect Schabak 1:600 scale models? I think they are detailed very well for their small size. Since 1995, I've collected over 130 of these planes, and I was wondering if anybody else does. Give me some info on which ones you have (if any.)
Just Wondering!  Smile

I used to collect them but I stopped. I like Herpas and Starjets now. I still have about 80 Schabaks but I wont buy anymore, some of them are just waaaay to cheap. Plus with Herpas and Starjets you can use the Herpa 1:500 airport set  Big thumbs up But I do have a couple rare Schabaks like the early ones that came out with huge wheels and a Limited Edition ONA DC8.

I used to collect them. I have about 70 or 80 I think and I still like them.
I never really liked Herpas or anything else, though.

Yes I do collect these but less than 30!!! I am a student and right now I enjoy moving them around my small "airport". I have a few Herpa's yes they are nice, and simply the only reason I got them was because one they didn't have in Schabak and the other three I got as present's. Right now I put them away and will probaly take them out sometime around Christmas, when I hope to get my Herpa Airport, but this is what I remember:
Southwest "Shamu"
The following are 747
Virgain Atlanit -200
Alitalia -200
Alitalia "Baci" -200
PIA
Surinam Airways -300
BA -400 (Herpa) i think it's "Sweeden"
Air Force one
Canadian
---
JAS 777-300
BA, AF, OLD BA+Singapore CONCORDE
TWA Old Colors 767-300 (maybe 2)
DC-8 (maybe not) Limited edition (the one that celebrates the birthday of america)
"Beluga" (Herpa)
L-1011 Royal Jordanian (Herpa)
TWA 747 (Herpa)
There are more 737 but I can't remeber anything else!!! Most I got are from The Airplane Shop a few Herpa's are from the giftshop at jetBlue's terminal at JFK and I am thinking about getting some from Schabakusa.com

I have to say something about the quality of Schabak models. It really depends on the type of a/c.

Here are my complaints:

- A300 cast looks like crap, and is totally different from the A310 and even more so the A330/340 casts.

- So called "MD-80s" with V2500 engines, therefore making them an MD-90. It really pisses me off that my US MD-80 has the V2500s.

- It seems there is something wrong with the UA decals they produce, almost all my UA models and others I have seen come with imperfections.

- They did not bother to produce a realistic looking A300-600 model, so instead, you would actually be purchasing what looks like an AA A300-200.

Other than that, and the common, "decal slips", I have to say Schabak makes a fine product at a very affordable price. I especially like Schabak because I think they have a much better selection than Herpa.

Yes, Schabak is just as good (well almost) and cheap as well as a variety. For about 1 Herpa you can get 3 Schabak's. With my Herpa's because they are so expensive, I am afraid to take them out of the box!!! Hey if something happens toa Schabak...big deal.

I also like schabak becusae they are much cheaper then Herpa, and have a much better selection.

As for the decal errors, always open the box and look at the model before you buy it, I will look in 10 boxes sometimes at the store before I buy one, but in general my models are high quality. Some times the older discontinued models I buy of Ebay are of a lesser quality, but I am willing to accept that for a discotinued model.

I wish the models were more speciic for the airbuses, rather then just having generic A300, A310, A330, and A340s.

Aa737,
Thats one disadvantage buying direct by mailorder, you don't get to see what your buying.

Find a web site that you trust to esnd quality models. For a few years I was buying all of my models off 1 web page, and I knew the seller would almost always sell models with quality decals.
