I haven't seen anything more than light turboprops, and an occasional A300, must be you have to get far in the game to get the concorde and 747's.

i have often wanted to buy the game, but on the back the graphics dont look that good. also when you see a plane is it a real airline sheme, such as american or united, or is it in a fantasy sheme? how is the game, should i get it?

The airline schemes and names, which you deal with as you accept airline contracts, are fictitious. The simulation itself is a bit shakey, not as smooth as one would expect from Sim City and the like (particularly with zooming and viewing, and placing objects as well). There are some cool camera views, including the aircraft chaser view and the tower view.
It is a cool game for a while, but can get kinda boring after you really do well with it. For the low price, it is worth it.
Funny this is with the aircraft: I guess the company couldn't get the licensing for aircraft names, so here is a list of alterations as seen on the game:

You are talking about two diffrent games. In Airline Tycoon you run an airline (the plane shop is in this game) and in Airport Tycoon(aka Air Mogul and Airport inc.) you run the airport.
When I started playing Airport Tycoon the only planes coming to my airport were De Havilland Otters, Vickers Viscounts and Vickers Vangaurds. The bigger planes started coming in later. I even had a Tu-144 from Moscow flying to Lisbon

I had the same problem on my laptop but when I switched the game over to my desktop (with Millenium Edition) I didnt have any problems. I'm sure there is a patch somewhere that can help you.

i have this one airline at my airport who has probably about 50% of my flights into my airport, but yet still doesnt want any dedicated check-in desks or a hub status. i just received a hub status from another airline though, and they are increasing rapidly. any reason why the one airline doesnt want a hub.
