Hello,
I am using PSS 777 and 747-400 panel. I often do flights with the two panels. Somtimes I do long haul flight, which the plane carries much fuel, and the plane will climb initially at a lower level to reduce the weight of it first. And then, I will climb to a higher level. Yet, I don't know how to use FMC to make the plane climb automatically to a higher level. I have inserted the assigned speed and altitude into the RTE page. And then I let the plane fly by LNAV and VNAV. After passing the waypoint which the plane is supposed to climb, the plane reacts nothing. I wonder what I've missed. Can anyone explain what I do wrong and correct me? Thanks for answering.

Regards,

The FMC calculates the maximum altitude you can fly at or climb to at that point of time. Flying at Optimum altitude reduces fuel burn. You must enter the cruise elvel in your FMC. Try pressing the knob just below the altitude window see if it works.
