Hey all

Quick question: Does anybody happen to know the current laws about using a VHF or HF scanner/radio receiver to listen to ATC in Germany? Is it legal or illegal? What about Switzerland? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Germany: it is illegal to use technical devices to listen to "non-publicly spoken words which are not intended for third parties". Punishable by a fine or jail time up to three years. The technical devices can be confiscated. Penal Code § 201 II Nr. 1, V.

Switzerland: The same, but no prosecution without being requested by the victim. Plus the jail time is not specified. Penal Code Art. 179bis

Hope this helps,

I never had any problems while using the airband receiver at German airports, like DUS, FRA or MUC. Also police were around they never mentioned about it`is illegal or not.

Ok thanks. Maybe I'll just take it and use it privately, just to be safe. Or else ask a police officer around there.
