I've been meaning to get a quality combat sim. No, do not suggest the cheesey and unrealistic Microshaft Combat Sim. I was looking at Falcon 4.0 in particular. I've seen it's gotten excellent reviews, however it is 5+ years old.

Is it worth buying such an old sim? Are there any newer military sims that are up to par with Falcon 4.0?

Hey Portcolumbus,

I was a die hard F4 player in the days it was released. And I must say its the greatest combat sim ever.
Even though its four or five years old it remains te best sim out there.

A few cons though. The graphics are ofcourse a little old and i think 800x600 is the max it supports.
The sim does however support a lot of thirdware party software.
Like new panels and new sceneries. You might wanna check www.f4hq.com for more info. There are also a lot of online squadrons to join, and that still play F4 all the time.
It think its a game that will never loose its grace.
Ofcourse the choice of buying the game remains totally up to yourself.
just bear in mind that the flight dynamics and the use of weapons and other systems are just great. And really accurate. there is also a good manual written by Pete Bonnani, this man is a real F16 pilot and can tell you everything there is to know about the Block 50 F16.

Hope this helps ya out a bit.
If you have any questions please ask them.
Kind regards
G.

I play Falcon often. I also find Janes F-15 a entertaining sim, however I am not sure if it is sold anymore.

Aight, thanks for the responses. I'll research the cheapest price and will likely purchase it sometime soon.

Check out it's a new combat sim thats coming out soon.It looks like a good one to me.Also,I play Novalogic's F-22 Lightning 3 quite often. It's not the most realistic sim but the graphics are good and it is fairly easy to learn the basics.Multiplayer is always fun with plenty of open games and people to fight with.

That Lock On sim looks nice! Could be all eye candy and no sim to it. Just have to wait and see the reviews. Thanks for the link.

Another good sim is LO-MAC's predecessor, Flanker 2.5. You can get it at Walmart for $10. It's also several years old but it is very challenging!
