Just out of curiousity, what kinds of flights do you enjoy? What do you like to do with your time in FS? Do you like long haul, short, or medium? VFR or IFR? What do you find most exciting about FS? Do you have favorite approaches that give you "white knuckles" that you would challenge others to do?
I'm asking these questions to see if I can get any ideas, because sometimes I just wonder what can I do with FS to keep me going? I just finished a flight today, the third time since I've tried it, and well, I'm thinking about changing it because I guess I'm looking for some more excitement and challenge. Any ideas, and comments are welcome, thanks ahead of time.

I usually do short/medium haul flights for my VA. My fav approach is coming in from the south to Juneau Alaska (In Real life the scenery is AWESOME!). I also like flying in REAL time the 32 approach to Finleyville Airpark, get a good steep glide coming in because of the trees at the end of the runway.

Well I fly both domestic and international flights with a minimum range of 1500 miles so the flight is not too short, however with my Pan Am Boeing 737-200 I set minimum ranges for 500 miles, and thats a short flight with a Pan Am Boeing 737-200. I fly flights that range from 1500 to 8,430 miles on aircraft such as the Boeing 767, 747-400, 777 and DC-10. I fly both short, medium, and long range flights in FS98 and I really enjoy it, its a game that hasnt got boring at all for me in the last three years so far. I will keep on flying, because it will always remain fun. My hardest approaches are like when I am trying to land a Boeing 747-400 on a runway that is like 5500 ft in length. and only 75 ft. wide. Narrow and short runways are the hardest approaches, I like them because it is challenging and I have always succeeded. I never fly with any weather or at night, because there is no GPWS in FS98 and it would be hard to fly like that, so I only fly during dawn, day, and dusk with no weather except a blue sky with no visibility or wind at all. I dont fly VFR or IFR in Cessnas or anything, I fly the big commercial birds in the sky!!!!!!!

I usually do short-medium haul flights to/from either LAS or CMH with the Dreamfleet 737, which is basically the only aircraft I fly. Usually the flights are 1-2 hours, occasionally I'll attempt CMH-LAS, roughly 4 hours. Real weather is a must, and night landings are near the top of list of fun things to do.
Haven't played much lately as I've been busy at work.

There are a few things I do with FS. One is fly VFR routes in a C182/172 using sectionals, E6-B and plotter to make a realistic flight with fuel, ETE and routes all calculated by me. Another is take a Katana DA-20 (the plane i flight train in), and just work the pattern to improve my approaches. The final is fly medium haul flights in B757 and B727 for UPS VAC. Thats what I do!

Well, if the question were "what should I be doing with FS?" the answer would be practicing holds, instrument approaches, and the VFR stuff that N139J does in the 182. But since I've gotten my real-life instrument rating, my motivation to do that stuff has really gone downhill. Lately I've just been joy-riding in the C182 and Baron, and letting ATC vector me around in my FFG Learjet 35s and my ERJs. I should probably focus on doing some real-life IFR/VFR stuff, but hey, I'm on vacation. It's summer -- time to goof off.

I guess that's the direction I'm heading toward 'Speed. I just seemed to have more fun when I was doing the virtual lessons and checkrides because there were all those procedures (ILS approaches, holds, VOR approaches). Of course every once in a while it would be good to fly somewhere for fun. The thing is, that I want to stay involved with FS and always have rewarding and enjoyable flights. By the way, N139j, what did you mean by "work the pattern to improve my approaches"? Do you pick an instrument approach procedure and fly the procedure turns, missed approaches, etc.?

I once flew UNDER the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco in FS2002 using an Alitalia 747-200 Baci Livery to accomplish the task. I was going so fast that I had virtually no time to switch to spot plane view and take screenshots for proof. Sorry guys. Other than that, I like to do midair tricks on POSKY 747's like 4 point barrel-rolls, complete 360 rolls, vertical midair stalls, and other cool stuff. I find it very exciting to see the massive 747 do tricks like that.

Well, I finally got back to doing some real-ish IFR flying. Took the Baron out for a flight. I flew a SID too, I just ignored ATC and flew the route that the SID depicted. I also have banned myself from using the GPS for the time being. Time to get serious again.
