I thought I was the only one who collected schabak Big grin I have at last count 125 in the 1:600 scale. Haven't had time to build my airport due to work and graduate studies. Hopefully next summer when I'm on vacation I'll have more time to work on it.

I have about 200+ schabak..many older models from last 10 years.

A little dusty and some boxes are missing, but most are in excellent shape and I am looking to get rid of them.

I can find old stuff at alot of model shops where they're trying to get rid of them. But I'm looking for new stuff, mostly US domestic. International Long Haul.

Sushka: Nice collection of Russian stuff! Big grin I want an IL-86 real bad.

I love Schabak 1:600 scale!, I've been collecting for years now, although until this past year I haven't exactly had the money to buy as many as I would like, but under the circumstances I have forty two different models and I'm expecting seven more sometime this week. I always hoped that Schabak would come out with a Alaska MD80 replica but I guess it never came to be, too bad it would have looked outstanding!.
Have a nice day!

Schabak's quality is very poor. Besides, 1/600 scale is too small. If you like the smaller scale diecast models, StarJets are by far, the cream of the crop in 1/500 scale, along with Big Birds. You also pay more for these models, but they are extremely accurate, superbly detailed airliner replicas. Astonishing, actually!

I used Spaghetti for the light poles and balsa wood for the lights... LOL... Creativity... All the jet bridges were made mostly by our exchange student from Germany back in 1992 made out of paper.... I havent worked on it in about 8 years, and a couple years from now, Im going to have to have a strange place for all my WFU 727's!

The tower cab was made with this cap that came off the soda syrup from a fast food joint I worked at in TVC!

My airport will have a double decker viewing area, and an underground tunnel, with a 3000 pound plexiglass window at the runway threshold Big grin
Spaghetti, soda cap= Pure creativity  Big thumbs up
I use legos for my jetways, and for making some pretty crazy control towers. But dude, you need more planes! Big grin
I want to make a lighting system out of fiber optic tubes. You can buy like 500 little .5mm diameter tubes for like 50 bucks. I can get color gels to make white runway lights, blur taxiways and some red hold short lights. Then I'll stick them all through little drill holes, and make a box underneath the thing with a bunch of 150 watt bulbs, that should light things up.  Smile

I have about 30+ planes now... When I built the airport, I only had like 5 planes. I have another peice connecting to the end of this piece with a cargo and maint. area... I am going to get so in depth as to make a Mcdonalds and a few other things outside the airport perimeter.

I thought of using christmas lights (sticking the tips thru the wood) but I think I am going to do what you suggested.

I wont be able to get my airport until I transfer to Florida in like 2 years, but, I plan on going to the craft store and making a couple hangars out of balsa as well as a few other things.

Thats cool. I tried christmas lights too, but it was just too much hastle. I always ended up spliting the wood with my drill, or making the hole too big. Then I had to fill them with plaster or putty to make the lights stick, and it was difficult to change the light colors.
This fiberoptic stuff looks cool, not to mention the fact that the lights will be .5mm, really small!! Big grin

KLAX- That's pretty cool. I saw a few familiar ones in there that I have too. I have an Aeroflot IL-96, you were talking about Ilyushin planes.

Sushka & Maiznblu- Both of yours are awesome!! Mine looks nothing like that-

It's made out of a piece of plywood. The runways are drawn in pencil, the terminals made out of the plane boxes (not glued down in case I want to move things around), the tower is stacked boxes w/two NW cups as the actual ATC center, and the highlight IMO- the jetways are bendable straws. I don't have any lights, I just have the lights on in the room at night. A few years ago, I (and this may sound pathetic) used a spreadsheet to create 2 flight schedules- 1 Int'l & 1 Domestic.
I have 7 terminals connected to a main building, two remote terminals (1 for NW, 1 for DL) and a cargo building.

Now for my collection- I have about 175-180 1:600 models & continue to get them. They're my favorite type of model. I love them!!! The dominant airlines I have are NW (16 or 17 models- NW Cargo 747 coming in December) & DL (15 w/ DL Connection- 3 more in Deltaflot colors coming!)

Maiznblu- I already have two viewing areas- one on top of the "hotel" (made of the boxes as well) and at the end of the main runway. No cops- spotters welcome! lol

That sounds cool Josh! Schabak maybe not as fancy ans detailed as other models, but they're great to collect for such a modest price.
I was real sad when www.schabakusa.com (The US schabak distributor) closed down. I ordered about half of my stuff from them.

I also use plane boxes as terminal buildings sometimes. They work pretty well, plus you can make interesting shapes and long piers with em'.

When I move to a bigger place I'm going to devote more time to my collection and start working on a permanent Airport.

Clovis- If you ever fly into CDG or are in Paris, you can find them. CDG has a small selection of mostly widebodies at the Relay stores in the terminal & I forget where, but there's an awesome shop with a decent selection in Paris.

Somebody said something about WFU 727s-
If you have a lot of planes that have been retired from an airline, WFU, etc., you could do what I did- create your own airline & say that the different schemes are "retrojets".

I have 4 747-200s (ex PA, TW, DL, PeoplExpress), 4 L-1011s (3 ex-DL, 1 ex-EA), 2 727-200s (ex-CO, Piedmont), 2 F100s (ex-US & Midway), 2 A310s (ex-PA), 1 A300 (ex-PA) & 1 F28 (ex-Piedmont) in my fleet.
