Hi all, I recently got a Garmin GPS, and I love playing with it so far. I've even used it on the plane (it was allowed, BTW) and if you're sitting near a window seat, you can actually get good reception. It's pretty funny to see your speed as 592 MPH.
My question is, my GPS has a serial port interface, that allows you to connect to a computer, and I'm wondering, if there exist programs that take GPS data, and display your position on a map of the world. Preferably, something aviation-related, that displays airways, VORs, NDBs, and intersections, so I can see what route my plane is flying. That would be fun, to bring my laptop, and use it with my GPS. It would be even better than the Airshow map on the PTVs!
Does such software exist? If so, does anyone know specific names? Thanks!

Ryu2,
I've not used the software with a GPS unit, but EARTHA Global Explorer by Delorme claims to have the abillity you are looking for. However, it does not have actual airways, VORs, etc. It IS, however, a GREAT mapping software program with a lot of neat features. I use it to re-create route maps from my airline timetables. Plus, it has thousands of points of interests that help to plan trips all over the world. Again, I've never used it with a GPS, but it does claim to interface with them. Check it out: http://www.delorme.com/egex.
