I downloaded a few packages from Project AI's website, installed them, and to my surprise there is very little traffic at major airports, I went to KBOS and there were only 10 planes on the tarmac, with the UA, CO, DL (mainline, express and shuttle) and US packages installed. I Also installed a AFCAD file for KBOS with up to 80 gates if I remember correctly. Both traffic settings (ATC and dynamic scenery) in FS are set to max.
It was working properly before I formatted my HD, all airports were filled, but now it's rather dead. I had much more traffic before with the same packages installed.

1) AI traffic is reduced to keep your FS performing properly. So if your machine is struggling you will get less than the maximum traffic.
2) If you turn the AI slider down, the number of AI aircraft rendered is reduced as well
3) there's something wrong with the aircraft. Check all aircraft.cfg files for the AI stuff for missing or duplicate [fltsim.xxx] sections. These should be unique numbers in each file (so duplicates across files are normal) and should be an uninterrupted sequence from 0 up.

I'm kind of new to FS2002, but will AI traffic fly to airports where there isn't an available gate? In other words, all gates at OAK are occupied, will and AI flight take off for OAK. Looking at the read me files for traffic tools I'm led to believe that an AI flight will not take off unless there is a gate for it to dock with.
