Anyone Know Of A Good A330 Add-on?

Does anybody know where I can get the best free A330 add-on possible? Since it is my favorite airliner, I'd like a very good virtual version of it for FS2004. If you know of one with lots of detail, a good flight model, and a realistic instrument panel, I'd love to get it!

Also, while we're on that subject, who do you think makes the best virtual add-on aircraft (in general) for flight sim?

Thanks,

-Q

POSky is about the best you'll do for an A330...

repaints on AVSIM, Flightsim.com, etc...

If your talking about paying for an add-on for the best company I would have to say Just Flight. Plus their bringing out an A330-A340 add on in the very near future if your interested! Hope the info was ok.

Thanks LHRman

Yes I would recommend the PSS A330/A340 add-on, its from the same people who produced the excellent A320 Pro. You should probably be able purchase it in Australia in a few weeks time.

Freeware-wise try the newly released Flightcraft A330-200 and -300, available at AVSIM. The file names are flightcrafta330-200-preview.zip flightcrafta330-300-preview.zip Keep in mind that these 2 files are previews of the upcoming (freeware) finish product coming soon.

Project opensky also have a good freeware A330, however I'd recommend a fast machine if you don't want textures loading time to be a factor.

I personally stay away from PSS for the following reasons:

1) I will never buy from a company that makes their customers BUY the liveries, (original aircraft comes with factory colors if I believe).
2) On the PSS forum the support guys doesn't seems very friendly unlike the PMDG guys for example.
3) Their forum is moderated, that means they filter through the post, if they don't like you well they can block all your posts on their forum.
4) It took them over 6 months to make their products FS9 compatible and the first attempt was disastrous.
5) Some problems that were found months ago and were supposed to be addressed in the patch (e.g: A320 brake temp sensor) were not fixed. The answer to the customer that asked why was a cold "problem could not be fixed, sorry", the PSS person that answer could have said "problem not fixed, now f*ck off elsewhere" and it would have sounded the same.

For the record, I have never bought from PSS and never will. I'm not one of those grumpy ex-customers.

NorthstarDC4M, I downloaded the Project Open Sky A332 and bmi texture but the whole process of putting the right things in the right folders and modifying the "aircraft.cfg" file is confusing. In the instructions they don't make it very clear where everything should go but maybe I just don't have enough experience with this stuff. I'll try to get it to work, but I think I'll look for an add-on that I can just put in the FS "aircraft" folder.

If anyone has any tips for installing the add-on I'd appreciate it!

Thanks again,

Here is a little help Q330,

1. Download the two basepackages of the A330-300 from POSKY: http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?External=yes&DLID=37557&CatID=Root and
http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?External=yes&DLID=38676&CatID=Root.

2. Unzip osa333v2novc.zip, you should now have three folders called Opensky A330-300noVC GE, PW and RR. Lets use the RR folder for now.

3. Unzip posky_a333v2_vc.zip. Since we are using the RR model, look for MODEL.RRVCNOSAT and MODEL.RRVCSATCOM. Now move these two folders in the A330-300noVC RR aircraft folder. Since you do not need the GE and PW folders, you can just delete them.

4. Just move everything in the rest of the package to their respective folders e.i. Modules to Modules and Gauges to Gauges. Don't forget to move everything in the textures folder to your livery folder of that aircraft, so that the VC textures will show up.

5. Go to the Aircraft.cfg file and assign what model you want with that paint, satcom or no satcom.

Easy Eh!

I can't wait for the day I finally figure out how to run the stupid panel with the POSKY A330's....I keep getting "missing gauge" "malfunction malfunction malfunction" in the ECAM in the 2d and virtual cockpits...GAH can't make it go away...

Other than that it's an EXCELLENT model with the absolute best Airbus virtual cockpit anywhere.

Jbird,

I suggest you download the latest patch from the author of the panel. Get it at http://emarciano.flightsimmer.com/ the file is named A330 bug fix, just copy the file to your gauge folder. It seems like the panel started bugging when computers switched to 2004.

Thanks so much, Jutes85! When I get the time, I'll do what you suggested and tell you how it works out.

I hope I can get it working as it does seem to be the best one around.

Yes POpensky A332,3 4sure, 5 stars and A++.
Amazing wing textures: flexing wing and perfect quality(not blurry or simplistic) from passengers perspective, spoilers/ailerons/flaps with comlicated configurations...its worth a try for all you Opensky a330 fans, just open the aircraft.cfg in notepad for your Opensky a330 and find [Views] section, just copy this one over the existing one :
[Views]
eyepoint= -20, 0, 9.3
now when you look left and right you'll see some dramatic shots - do an instant reply after your landing and watch the flexing and autospoilers work.
A330 - what a beautiful beast, definately my favorite plane of all time.
Anyone know a good (32bit) Qantas? Then I'd be in heaven.

cheers,

Hmm, the Avsim library is temporarily down. I guess I'll have to wait it out.  Sad

LHcapt2007, yeah a QF texture for the POSKY 330 would be awesome! Unfortunately I don't know of one, although it does exist somewhere.

Who doesn't love the A330?  Big grin

Avsim is back up, and I got the A330 to work!

So far, I've only installed the Airbus house colors version, but I'll try the bmi version soon. It looks very nice!

Unfortunately, my cockpit gauges didn't work (I think this is quite common) so I'll try that bug-fix that has been suggested.

The only other thing is that I haven't installed the effects (condensation, tire smoke etc.) Does anyone have any tips for installing the effects?

Thanks again to everyone who's helped!

Radarbeam: I found a pretty good solution to improving framerates. It's not original, but apparently not too many people know about it. One 'word': DXTBmp.

Download that program (probably Avsim, or just try Googling it, sorry) First (and you only need to do this once each time you open up the program), go to Prefs and uncheck 'Include Mips.' Then, open up each texture, one at a time, and save as 'DXT3 with Alpha.' Do that for each texture file, or at least all the major ones, and you're set.

Try that and let me know how it works. Any questions, and just shoot me an email. Actually, you can just check out this link and learn exactly what I just told you: http://forum.projectopensky.com/index.php?showtopic=8128.

Enjoy.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
