Fellow modelers:

Is there any interest in posting photos (here) of your model collections? I have several shots that I took recently and will post them if there is similar interest.

Sqpax,

Your collection and their display is INCREDIBLE. I really like the realism, and the way you've designed your terminal setting. How many total models do you have in the collection?

I collect 1/100th scale models and larger, so I don't think I could ever build an airport replica.

I'll post some photos this evening.

Concord977 I've got two Swissair SpaceModels 1/100 if you're interested. Both are in the last livery one is an MD-11 and the other is a A330-200.

That is an awesome collection you have there. I especially love the Northeast SST.

Cactus,

Thanks! There are actually two NE SST's. One in the old colors, and one in the Yellowbird scheme. The wings do move. There are some accuracy problems with the colors schemes, but I still love to have them in my collection!

I am going to post a few more photos tonight or tomorrow.

Concord977:

Your collection is awesome! Beautiful models and a different realm altogether from the smaller ones I'm into. Love the old Eastern 747-100!

My collection is pretty much what you see on the site. I think the only model I haven't included is an Air Holland B763 (ho hum). My "short list" for immediate purchase would be VS-744 (Gemini Jets Corporate) and VS-346 (also Gemini Jets Corporate) and Dragon Wings SQ345. I have the Herpa SQ345 and the Dragon Wings VS346. The latter, I'm not impressed with at all.

With respect to the diorama itself, it took four weeks or so to do. The terminal building and cargo center are Herpa 1:500 -- they work fine with the 1:400 models as you can see. The hanger I built myself. Adding a second terminal forthwith. I'm just trying to decide if I'll build it from scratch or buy another Herpa kit and keep it consistent with Terminal One. I expect to get going on it by this coming weekend.

Thanks for the kind words and props to you for your collection once again!

Malcolm

Curt,
You have a wonderful collection, and I see that we have very similar tastes. I'm loving the Calder 727 (I think that it's one of the best schemes put on my very favorite airframe). The United Caravelle is also a great model. The Braniff Concordes--are those Black Box? They look fabulous. Excellent AA retro collection too. Are most of those models carved out of mahogany? Also, where have you purchased them from if I may ask? I would be interested in buying a few for myself (I know that the mahogany ones come with a pretty nice price tag too). Thanks in advance friend.

Hey, Bryan!

A lot of the models were purchased from Atlantic Models when I lived in Miami. I also bought a few of them from a retailer known as Tally Ho, also iin Miami. Some of the unusual ones were purchased on Ebay. The AA collection is mahogany except for the retro 757, which is fiberglass.

The best makers of 1/100th types are Atlantic, PacMin, Space Models, AMI/Phelps and Bader. The EA 747 and the NE 880 (gear down) are both Bader models and are very heavy and nicely detailed.

Atlantic does the best job with clearcoating, but some of their colors are just a tad off (i.e. the Northeast Yellowbirds are a bit "mustard" instead of slightly orange).

I should have some photos of my Beluga, AA 757SP and my larger CV880s on tonight.

Take care,
Curt

For what it's worth, here's my favourite model (out of about 18 in my 'collection')...it's 1/144 scale, and made out of mahogany...

(Please excuse the quality of the photos, I had to resize them a lot and as a result the quality is less-than-good...)

Who is the maker?

A Phillipines company called "Airjet Advance Models"...they make some 1/100s as well...

I love that model, despite a few inaccuracies (no Satcom, red inside of winglets...)...it's just so...A330!

Cheers,
QantasA332

SQpax:

I was very interested seeing your models and your airport diorama as it is similar to ours, it looks fantastic I must say and I like the way you have added sponsors to your buildings. Our airport currently has 18 gates, 4 remote stands, 4 cargo stands and 2 maintenance stands. I also use the 1/400 scale on the 1/500 herpa airport because I find 1/400 has a higher quality of models compared to 1/500. I will attempt to put some pictures of my airport on here but we are too going through an expansion phase where we will be adding a whole new terminal to the airport. We have also lit the airport with ground and building lights, using fibre-optic cable with light supplied through LEDS, this will be shown in the pictures.

Our 2nd terminal will look extremely like the terminal in Osaka Kansai.

Dave: Thanks for the feedback. I'd be most interested in seeing your airport, particularly the fibre-optics. I'm looking into that now for mine; visited a model train shop recently and the salesman took a good deal of time with me explaining it, although he didn't have anything "live" to demonstrate.

Sam: The airport terminal buildings are Herpa brand -- their products and a list of worldwide retailers are at their website http://www.herpa.de The hanger I built from scratch using Evergreen styrene.
