StarJets - What's Happening

I haven't been following the world of 1:200 model aircraft for a few months due to other commitments. I just tried to find out what StarJets are up to with their models, but I am drawing a complete blank on anything about them. I read that Schuco have stopped their distribution agreement. More worryingly, the StarJets website has gone into Forbidden mode: http://www.starjets.com/

Can anyone shed some light on what is going on with StarJets? Are they still operating, and in particular are they still producing 1:200 scale models? It would be a shame if they were to disappear - I own an Ansett Australia A320 of their's, and it is a very nice model...

Well, their website is now working again. Odd.

The other day I purchased a StarJets 1:200 Northwest (new colours) A320. However, there is no recognition of this on their product list, nor of the Air Nippon A320 and Air 2000 & USAF 757-200s from them, which were also on sale at the shop I went to. Further, their Australia distributor (http://www.aviation-center.com.au/) has even more aircraft listed that fail to appear on the StarJets page.

I am now even more perplexed - what exactly is going on with this company? Are they just not updating their website, or is something else going on?

 Confused

VirginFlyer,

The last I have heard was that Schuco announced earlier this year at the Nuremberg Toy Fair that they have stopped cooperation with StarJets and their will be no more new releases in the 1:200 line. Nearly broke my heart when I heard that news, as SJ's 1:200 line seemed like a promising new line, especially with their wonderful 757 mould.

I am not sure about the few scattered new releases using the SJ moulds that have come out since then, like the Northwest and ANA Airbuses, and the Air 2000 and USAF 757s that you mentioned. These along with an America West A320 and 1 or 2 others have been released after the 1:200 line apparently closed. I believe some of these may have been released using the SJ moulds but by an independant company, not necessarily StarJets.

It's now been about a year since the last batch of real new releases from the SJ 200 line. One of the last releases, the Continental 757, is one of my favorite. I'm glad they got that one out before things turned weird with them. I remember seeing pictures of SJ Eastern and Delta 757s about a year ago that were supposedly "coming soon". It's a shame we never saw that DL widget. Sad

I wish I had more answers, but I don't. If I read anything else about SJ I'll be sure to let you know. I really hope they get their problems or whatever worked out with Schuco, or maybe someone else can take over their 1:200 line.

P.S. How is the NW new colors A320? Does the silver look like the silver on the real NW planes? I really want the NW bowling shoe scheme but that one is sold out everywhere I look.

To begin with, the StarJets website has never been up to date.

StarJets is currently re-organizing and new models (beyond the KLM, ANA, VS, etc.) should be available in the early months of 2005.

In the mean time, you might want to go over to the W900 forum, as there is usually some talk about SJ.

Will, I believe you are referring to the SJ 1:500 line. I don't collect 1:500 models so I do not know exactly what is going on with Schuco/SJ 500. Is it along the lines with their 1:200 problems?

The problem that you described is the same with SJ 1/500. Models appear "unofficial" on the market, and some (like the JAL 744 and 777) had pre-production pictures, but the actual models were never seen.

The whole SJ line should be "resurrected" in early 2005.
