I have played FLY and XPlane, and I must say that at the time between FS98/2000, FLY was definately much better in my opinion as far as accuracy of aircraft systems, etc., but with FS2004 and the PMDG 737 and equivalent add-ons, I don't play it any more. XPlane is very cool from the aspect that you can design your own aircraft, but I don't think the look is very realistic. Keep in mind that the only version I have played is 5 or 6? and from what I hear the newer versions are pretty good. FLY and XPlane are definately not as demanding on the computer as the Microsoft series in my opinion, but I think FS9 is much better on the whole as far as the number of features included. Also, to answer your second question, no...the other sims do not have nearly the amount of add-ons.
