Seeing The An-225 In Flight

Has anyone ever seen the AN-225 in flight? This means from the ground or the air, when it's high up or on approach.

Does it cruise high enough to make contrails?

If it does, what do they look like?

I've never seen one in real life. Yes it does cruise at altitudes where contrails are formed. The contrail from an AN-225 must be large as it is powered by six engines.

I've seen it in-flight, and have even gone up close to one several times back when I worked the ramp. They like using ONT as a fuel stop.


Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.

Here it is. The only time I saw the Mryia. Photos taken during the Paris Air Show 1989.

I have seen the An-225 at cruise level and, yes, it was contrailing. As far as I remember it was at about FL310 or maybe higher.

Saw it fly at Farnborough (1994, I think) and remember it taking an age to lift off the ground. Very graceful once it was up, though.
