hundreds of English (soccer) fans will arrive in Germany in June armed with ....inflatable sptifires
"You mean Sptifires, like those from the war" asked a spokesman from the German World Cup Committee.

This little news snippet, may be doing the rounds in cyberspace and the paper makes no reference to the source.

Not to sound too pessimistic or negative thinking but I think its a bit distasteful if the reasons behind this are those which I'm thinking about (WWII, Allies vs. Axis).

We're all friends now (at least in the Europe), and even though you can never erase history we must move on. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying to forget all the sacrifices made by the people in the war (especially the soldiers fighting for their countries) but it should be remembered with mutual respect.

Anyway that's my view, no need to start useless fights.

It is very distasteful - however the paper did not specify if this was a true story.

I would think that better, mature judgement will prevail and no 'thoughful' person would actually do such a thing.

Although it is soccer and a small group of idiots can ruin it for the masses.
