I just bought a new Graphics card last night, G-Force 6200 AGP 8x 256MD DDR yet I don't see any improvement in FS from before. Framerates are the same on the ground (varies between 7-20). In the air at cruise Frame rates do go up (sometimes i hit 32, 63 even). I was wonder what (if anything) i did wrong and how i could improve my frame rates.
Thanks,
andre

While the geforce 6200 is a good card don't expect too much from it.

I would try the following things to improve you FPS.
Make sure that all your setting in the nvidia driver controls are set to the appropriate setting, i.e. anti-aliasing is set to 4,8 or 16 but not on "application controlled". In fs, you can try decreasing the traffic level, limiting visibility or decreasing the display settings. Also make sure the FS has recognized your new card through the DirectX settings.

I'd download the newest driver from Nvidia.com, I believe its version 91.31.

I went from a geforce 6800GT to a Radeon X550, and noticed no difference at all in fact, the cheaper Radeon has given me way less problems than before.

If you're on Avsim, check out the discussion forum they have some great tips there has well.

You need atleast 1gig of ram and you should have a dual core processor or atleast a 3.2 Ghtz processor, this would give you optimum preformance off your new graphics card, done some more research and found that this could really be the only reason.

Because reading bout the card it should runs flight sim smoothly and with out any problems and realtivley good frame rates, but its usually the RAM that kills you!!

Maybe there is some other kind of bottleneck in your system. That sounds most likely. What clock speed is your RAM and also the old Athlon XP processors have slow Front Side Bus speeds so you are better with a Pentium 4 or Athlon 64 with hypertransport than an old Athlon XP processor for FS9. To have graphics cards not making any difference in frame rates shows another bottleneck somewhere, especially having upgraded from intergrated graphics.

You don't need a dual-core processor to have good performance. A perfect processor for mid-to-high end computers that is not dualcore is the AMD 64 3800+ San Diego, which when not overclocked, runs at 2.2 GHz and gives good performance, provided you have more than enough RAM and a good GPU. I have the 3800+ San Diego in my computer, and combined with 2 GB RAM and a GeForce 6600LE, I get pretty good performance so far.

Just remember: the 3800 on AMD processors to give you an example, means it will run at the same speed as a conventional Intel Pentium IV processor, despite the lower clock speed. This is because AMD processors are more efficient, although Intel is slowly catching up with the philosophy of more efficiency and not necessarily more clock speed.

www.crucial.com does an automatic memory test on their website to see what type of RAM your computer takes! Crucial Memory is quite cheap I find and the quality it good too.

I got a new Graphics Card (Not state of the art  Wink) a while back, and got 5fps on FS9. I had a fiddle around with the configurations of Smoothing, anti-alising etc. Could fix the problem!

Er, what have u got to lose. Now AMD X2 dual core CPUs cost nearly as little as single cores ones so you might as well get one... and it will be good future proofing it software is converted to take advantage of multi-threadng. I'd recomend a dual core,. I jsut ordered my new computer with dual core YHEAAHH

Just out of curiosity...

1. How much more memory did you buy?

2. What kind of impact did it have on your framerates?

For what it's worth, I put another 1GB in my computer the other day (bringing it up to 2GB), and it didn't do that much...maybe an extra 10 FPS in most situations. Looks like I'm in the market for a new video card...

For what it's worth, I put another 1GB in my computer the other day (bringing it up to 2GB), and it didn't do that much...maybe an extra 10 FPS in most situations. Looks like I'm in the market for a new video card...

Still, who couldn't use an extra 10 FPS?  bigthumbsup

I've got a PNY Verto Nvidia GeForce 6800GS(overclocked) 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express card, and have 1GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM, and this is on a machine with a P4 HT processor 530 at 3.0ghz, with 1.2MB L2 cache and an 800mhz FSB.

I'm thinking doubling my RAM to 2GB might make a substantial impact, but I'm not sure. Thoughts?

Very true. I'm definetly enjoying the boost, I just don't feel like I'm noticing a performace increase as substantial as when I upgraded from 512mb to 1gb...although that was quite some time ago.

Probably worth the money in the long run, especially if you're planning on getting FSX when it comes out.
