Hello,
My Birthday is coming up soon (early Sep.) and I was wondering which AI Traffic program to get. Now Ultimate Traffic or Traffic 2005?
A. Which one has the least amount of impact on FPS?
B. Which one has the best textures and models without efecting "A"?
C. Which one has accurate flight plans?
I was reading a description for traffic '05 and it sounds great but when it says it has some airports included does that mean my sceneries and AFCADS will be deleted in place of the ones included.
What is you experience with the two?
I'm on a lower end computer so FPS is critical.
Here's what I have FPS wise right now:
Ground 4-9 FPS Air 15-19FPS how will either of these programs effect my low FPS?
-Matt
Thanks in advance!

The best AI you can have for FS is free. You can believe me now and learn more about it or figure it out later after wasting some money. Judging by your current frame rates, (which will be absolutely slaughtered by either of those programs) your FS dollars would be much better spent on some hardware upgrades.
I'm happy to help if you're interested in building your own AI traffic. You and your FPS will be much happier if you do.

I just don't like feeling like building my own flightplans, each one takes 5 minutes. But, If there is an easier way, please tell me!

I'm on 56k dialup and downloading planes is a b*tch and a half. Takes 45 minutes - 1hour for a 9mb file.
Oh and to let you know I'm going to buy a better graphics card in the near future.
For a 45kb file it takes almost a minute.

The internet connection is definetly going to be a problem...In all honesty, if you're only getting 4-9 FPS on the ground right now, the addition of AI is really going to make things slow regardless of what models you add (we're talking 1-4 FPS or less), which is going to make things really unenjoyable for you. What are your system specs?

How much memory does it have? That plays a big factor in your FS performance. Those are just slightly better than my specs, and I normally run at between 20-30 FPS with Utlimate Traffic and GA Traffic AI running at 100%. And I have 768 MB of RAM.

I don't know how to look at RAM but IIRC its 500mb
EDIT: 384 MB RAM I found it

I have a Compaq Presario laptop with an AMD 64 processor...it shipped with 256MB or RAM and I wasn't getting very good FPS on FS9... (10-12)
About 6 months later I found a great deal on a 512MB upgrade, so now I'm up to 768 and it boosted my FPS significantly. (20-30 most times, even in high density areas but without traffic on...I get annoyed because the atc spacing sucks NOTHING like the real thing unless you've got another program running that handles that. A friend of mine uses one but I can't remember what it's called...)

With your system. 1 gig would help but its your processor and video that kill you. Celeron is, to be blunt: Shite. And when you go and get a new Vid card, make sure your pc has an AGP slot. Dont waste your money on a PCI video card. Its worthless for gaming.

Okay, lets say I get the 1Gb, what FPS would I get with Ut or Traffc05?

Yeah, the processor is going to be a problem. PCI express cards are pretty good, but I don't think they're all that common in most computer setups. I've got one and it works fine.

It'll help a lot. It's tough to say exactly how much.
Quoting Jetmatt777 (Reply 8): Hey, how much would 1GB of RAM get me?
40 FPS?
Definetly not that much. I have 2GB and I only see that kind of performance once I'm off the ground.

They are ahead of AGP in speed and power. But they are only starting to show up in new pc's and that emachines is def not going to have one nor an AGP methinks.

Maybe 15-20 on the ground and maybe 20-23 in the air? with 1gb

Maybe. But like I said, your main problem is your video and CPU. Wait a year or so, save up some cash and get a decent dell or build your own. Theres very little you can do with that computer becuase its 1) a celeron and 2) and emachines. Not trying to put ya down or anything but gaming and emachines arent a match made in heaven.

No offense taken. It wasn't bought for FS, it was for, well, my dad wanted a PC at the house so he bought one, I was never on the computer much, just every now and then to look for model airplanes, then I found A.net and signed up then looking in the hobby forum found FS and bought it and well, here we are, the whole computer is stock except for my Dad bought a little more memory for the hard Drive I believe. Other than that the pc is stock
Well, I'll go with World of AI and AI-aardvark.
Hopefully I'll get a new coputer some time soon, but my dad really like eMachines. I'm saving my cash up for A canon 20D so FS is second priority, but I want both, but, you can't own eveything (unless your bill gates)

There's an easier way:
download AI flight plans (although those aren't always very accurate.)
I'm trying to get as close to reality as possible for AI traffic, meaning I'm trying to get a lot of airlines and flight plans. My frame rates are currently close to 14 FPS on the ground and more in the air (with a 1 or 2-year old PC.)
I could always put the whole thing in one big package and release it or send it over. Everything I use is freeware.

OK guys, getting back to the original question.
I have used both UT and Traffic 2005 and find that UT drains the fps rate far greater than Traffic 2005. My system is a 2GB Athlon 2800 with IGB memory and a NVidia6600GT graphics card.
