is this another sign that flight sim is becoming a game aimed at the masses?

This will be the first time microsoft have ever made a demo of Flight Simulator....

What is the point of releasing a Demo that only runs best with DX10 on an operating System that won't be released within the next months / weeks?

It's like offering free test rides with the new Jaguar when all you have are dirt and gravel roads.

You don't have to pay, all you have to do is register for free. It's a trick they use and I guess it worked on you so people will pay. Just look around for the registration part, don't fall for that window where it says you have to pay.

Your add ons will work. Well, aircraft atleast. People need to chill out over this, the engine is basically the same, why wouldn't your add-ons work? But I dont think you can use add-ons with the demo, but I'm not sure.

Chill  Wink... the PMDG 747-400 will not work and thats for sure.. same is for LDS 767
etc. the sceneries neither. And im not talking about the POSKY shit etc.
The FDE will have to be changed because FSX will have more opportunities etc.
And the sceneries are not going to be working perfectly, or why did all the add on makers make changes to their sceneries to make them ready from FS2002 to FS2004

Add ons from FS 2004 use a different coding than for FSX and thats why PMDG is developing a add on to make its planes ready for FSX. So you need to chill..

If there's one thing I've learned during my time in the FS community, it's that most simmers are incapable of "chilling".

wasting time on FS

What a prepostureous thought. Never can time spent of FS be classified as wasting. Time can get wasted in FS, like when the controller can't get your flightplan (damn Squawkbox).

Anyways, I can't wait until it is released tomorrow. Does anyone have any times they think to download on a 48Mbps connection? I have to go to school 10 minutes before it is released and don't want to spend all afternoon downloading it.

Qantas744ER, did you register?

Actually I know for a fact that the PMDG 747 will work, sans panel. Add on aircraft do not use a different coding, just more detailed flight dynamics, which is no big deal. I know first hand, I'm doubtful you do.

So I guess we can expect the PMDG update to be panel-related.

I don't really see what the fuss is about anyway. MS have made some changes which, we have to assume, they see as an improvement. If it's the case that there will be compatibility issues then you can't blame third parties if it causes a problem with their existing products, assuming they've stuck to MS guidelines, and you can't expect MS not to make the improvements just because some people don't want to move forward. There have been incompatibility issues with previous versions.

When FS2004 came out, it was some time before the PSS 320 was patched to work with it. The Wilco 767PIC didn't work at all. Nor did the PSS 747 or 777. While the simpler IFDG or POSKY stuff may have no problem, the more detailed stuff generally requires a patch or new version (as happened with the 767PIC). Really not a big deal - I can live without them for a bit - gives me an excuse to explore the world doing stuff that would be illegal in real life, and brush up on my navigation as a mere /A.

Which, as I like to say, is about as good as buying a champion racehorse and cutting it's legs off. The model's great, but it's the panel that makes the add-on what it is.

*puts on cloak to make self invisible to microsoft* Now, from what I have personally seen, many panels that use pre FS2000 gauges (alot of panels) will not work at all. I'm not sure if this is going to be fixed or not. Also, I think on my system, the PMDG 744 panel didn't work because I didn't copy over all of the gauges.
