If you're basing your expectations on the FSX teaser pics released by Microsoft, you're setting yourself up for chronic disappointment. Screenshots from the manufacturer are very poor representations of what most consumers will see on thier computers.

Doesn't look too bad. I'm not Wowwed yet, but doesn't look bad.
Why, in the Manhattan shot, does it look like the Citicorp building is in Brooklyn?

A lot of those graphics are far better than FS2004. The first two images alone prove that, along with the wet runway and tyre spray blowing in the wind.
Quoting AC773 (Reply 1): some things are detailed that didn't need to be, and other things could do with more detail.
But those default terminals are much better than the FS2004 ones as are the autogen buildings. The roads don't seem to be any worse than they are in FS2004 at that altitude.
A lot of those graphics are better than FS2004. And remember, it's not just about graphics. Multi-user sessions, i.e. virtual airlines, should be much better, too.

The airport terminals could use better lighter textures, and the some of the Vegas signs don't need to be modelled.
The detailed road traffic looks good, but the blurred motorway texture ruins the effect. And in the last one they are driving on the edge of a cliff!
Like I said, he said there are bugs in the beta that wont be in the actual game when it comes out in public, for example: green water, blurred textures...

See kids, thats why they tell the beta testers in the NDA (NON DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT!!) that screenshots should not be posted. Its pre-release software, blah blah blah.

I'd love to know how MS expects their beta testers to get anything done at 4-7 FPS...

Hmm not really, for a game in its beta id say thats quite good! when i played the demo though i was getting 20 FPS and my pc isnt even remotely top range.
Anyone see how horrible the 787,AN225,A380 and the concorde looks in the display thing.

Although it's a beta do you think they'll really fix much now?
If this is for release on october 27th, it'll go gold in 3 weeks. Some small stuff might get fixed but don't expect too much. It depends on how old these screens are.

A bit off topic, but now that Gmax doesn't exist anymore, what are people gonig to use to make scenery?
Although I can use more complex 3D model programs, what about MS making a version of Google sketchup for making buildings for FSX? It's much easier to use than any other editor, it would be free (assuming MS paid for the licence). Becasue it would be easy to use we'd see much more scenery (free scenery anyway) for FSX.
It seems only the most popular airports are modelled, and the best models cost money which I just can't afford. It'd be nice to see downloadable free smaller airports modelled in detail by people who live by them/use them.

Actually, The 'Mission's' don't look that bad. In FS9 I've always wanted to do airshows and similar. This will be a plus in my side, for the time's you just want to mess around on FS they provide some stuff for you to do when you just want to mess around. Sometimes I don't feel like doing a real flight, but just want to fly.
Just my Opinion.

That building is in Queens, and does exist in real life. What I don't get is why that screenshot has the NYC streets running diagonally, when FS2004 had them running north-south and east-west, the way they should be.

It looks TERRIBLE. NO WAY am I getting that. I usually base all my judgments off beta screenshots. But, I'll eventually get FSX when avsim and others only makes add-ons for it, kinda like what I did with FS9.

Signed,
A lot of people
I usually base all my judgements off beta screenshots and realise my mistake when I find out that the graphics are actually better than I thought because I had no idea what the specs of the PC used were, what settings were used, that the improvements involve more than just graphics and that just because the new version doesn't have absolutely everything I wanted, it's still better than the previous version.

I'm not familiar with such a building in Queens but that one looks suspiciously like the Citycorp building in Manhattan, as Mir says:
