Im Looking For A VA...

Right, ive decided I want to get back into the Virtual Airlines scene, ive completed my round the world tour, and im sick of trying to think up exciting routes to fly.

However im not looking for any old VA, the airline I choose must meet a few conditions.

I want a VA that is realistic. I hate these airlines with 10 bases across the world, that fly every aircraft ever built. I want something plausible and realistic. Simple fleet, simple route structure.

The only planes I will fly these days are the payware aircraft, freeware doesnt cut it. Im in love with the level-D 767, it is trully a remarkable aircraft. I will also fly the PMDG 737 (600/700/800/900) if need be, but 767 would be preferable.

I dont particularly like long flights, so would be looking to do flights under 4 hours, although ill do the occasional long haul flight if required.

So, i need a realistic virtual airline that operates the 767-300 on flights under 4 hours, that offers a decent selection of routes to provide variation. If the airline uses tools such as FSACARS or any other program like that for added realism it would be a bonus.

So............. anyone got any recommendations? Big grin

Hey Glenn, hows things?

Your website doesnt work in firefox under linux. I just installed flash especially to view the sie as well, ive been trying to avoid installing it!

Screenshot: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v370/gavco98uk/snapshot1.jpg

Someone sent me a PM suggesting First Choice Virtual ( http://www.fcava.co.uk/ ). which is the favourite at the moment, although again youve got ebsite problems, youve got a DB error on the routes page  Silly

A charter airline sounds exactly lik what im looking for, they tend to operate 767s on short high density holiday routes, and offer a wide selection of destinations, which should keep things interesting.

Anyone got any more suggestions?

You only need to pass a 40 question test with 70% or higher and you're in. There is not requirement for flights, except that you need to fly one flight in the first week and then one flight every three months (I think)

I suppose a plug for Air Lambert (US division) is in order.  Smile

We don't operate the 767 at the moment, but it is a possibility for the future, and we do fly the 737-700 and -800, as well as the 757-200 (so when the LDS or PSS 757 comes out....  Smile )

All our 737 routes are under three hours, except for two long-hauls if you ever need to get that long flight fix. We are based at SFO.

We did shut down operations for a bit, but we'll be back soon, and more information about specific routes will be available in the near future.

I also am looking for a good VA, anyone help that I can get will be very much appreciated. I want one that has short-haul ops only, in the US or UK, one that operates MD-80 to A332 in size. Uses freeware but has payware repaints and one that enforces use on VATSIM.

I have been in so many VA's but none were really what I wanted, I tried...

grrrrrrrr  Silly

I still need a VA, I was tempted by First Choice virtual but their signup is currently closed and it doesnt look terribly well run, so might pass on that one.

There seem to be very few airlines using the 767, most seem to be 757, 747, 777, skipping the 767. Perhaps I should just settle for the PMDG 737...... :S

Come and take a look at MetroAir - we pride ourselves on being one of the most realistic VAs. We fly 737-200s, 767-200s and Dash 8-Q200s We'll soon have three 737-700s joining us as well...

We have very active forums too; we pride ourselves in having a very strong community.

Furthermore, we will soon be implementing a financial management system that will most certainly be unrivalled by any other VA in the FS world. Profits and losses will be tracked, and each flight flown contributes to that, with pilots seeing the balance sheet on each flight. Lots of other technical goodies on the way too...

i have to say, im VERY tempted by MetroAir, that livery is stunning!! Its a real shame you picked the 767-200 and not the -300, or I would have signed up on the spot.

Im tempted to join and fly the 737-700, but I see it is not yet available for download, and is not scheduled, so I might hold off a few weeks and see what other airlines I can find.

MetroAir is exactly the kind of airline im looking for, just not quite got the right fleet at this exact moment...

Fair enough! The 737-700 really isn't far off though - paints are done and being tested:

Keep watching us too on the 767 front - we're happy thus far with the -200, and everyone will agree that the Level D model is absolutely fantastic - we'd love to have it in the fleet one day if the economics make sense.

I tried the exam, got 98% on it ....  Big grin .

Question though, what all do you need as far as software goes? Do you just need FS, or do you also need VATSIM, fspassenger, etc.? Also, do they provide the aircraft for download, or do you just go to avsim and get the required equipment?

All you need is FS. If you fly on VATSIM or IVAO even better. Fspassengers is great to fly with and a lot of fun. I believe that all of their airlines have freeware aircraft for download and often AFCAD files and sometimes scenery.
I joined not knowing very much about real world regulations for the exam and got a 81%. I am pretty sure that I could get in the high 90's now.

Thanks VTBDflyer! I was thinking about joining the Virtual AF/KL. Looks kinda fun and you only have to fly once every three months, so there is not much pressure if one doesn't have the time to fly as often as possible.
